I was just hired at a cpa firm last month. I immediately let my boss know that I had a surgical procedure scheduled, and I would be unable to work 1/9-1/13. This was scheduled before I started the job and I was unable to change the date. On Friday 1/13 I emailed my boss telling her I was still feeling unwell and needed an extra day off (Monday 1/16). She replied on Monday midday saying since I needed an extra day, she now wants a note from my doctor proving I was “in his care” and released to return to work. I initially ignored this because I released myself to return to work by coming back in on Tuesday. Just now, she again asked for a note and I told her I released myself and questioned why she wanted a post dated note from the doctor and she said she just wants something saying I was in his care. I feel like this is a violation of my privacy because I do not want her to know who my doctor is or what procedure I had done. Isn’t there some legal standing as to why I can refuse to give her this information? I really think she’s just being nosy and wants to know what I was doing but she pre-approved my time off so how can she now ask for proof?
