Im upset, so this is my rant. Have been putting forth alot of effort the past few years; was selected for and graduated from a leadership development program, served many collateral duties, and have built software programs for my position which are no where near included in my position responsibilities. The programs increased efficiency reducing 2 week processes to two hours (im not bragging, my employer is just that far behind the times). A position was advertised for essentially the point of contact for software programs and other tools used by our state, many people encouraged me to apply, I felt really confident in the interview, and received a tentative job offer (shout out USA jobs). 36 hours after the tentative job offer, I got an email saying it was rescinded, I reached out to our more local hr person who said she was looking into it, only to hear nothing until another day later when the supervisor for that position called me and told that the leadership team (him) decided to refly the advertisement because they(he) didn’t think I had enough experience with the BS programs we use. It’s a web based map service, it’s not complicated. I’m not a great programmer, but I picked up Python, VBA, and html/css on my own and enough to build solutions with great ROI. This guy wasn’t even part of the interview panel because he’s on a detail elsewhere. Anyways, I’m jaded with the agency and leadership now. I was really excited, especially after receiving the offer, to make our agency efficient by automating and digitalizing our processes.
*the position will be going on 1.5 years now unfilled
TLDR; I learned my lesson about caring about my job.
