I posted about my job screwing me on a promotion a few days ago if you want to see background but the TLDR is I work for a state university and I'm up for a promotion after getting a PhD and essentially running the department for the past 6 years. They initially offered me what would have amounted to an extra ~700 a month (which is roughly what I make pet sitting on the side) for a very visible director level role which was a full 25k less than other FT directors.
The new stuff: I've been in negotiations and asked for an additional 5k. They said they would go to campus to see if they'd approve it. Campus came back and said “actually we think this role is worth 5k less than the initial offer.” This means, for a director level role with a PhD, I would be making ~400 dollars extra a month. That's it. That's barely half my student loans. I would actually be making less money because I'd have to scale back on pet sitting. My admin claims they're now submitting additional paperwork to try and get it back to my initial offer letter which is still not good enough. I was debating taking the position or not at the original offer just to have it on my resume while I look to bounce but I am absolutely not taking it for less.
Why offer a promotion if you also seem to be TRYING to get me to quit? I don't get it. I know they didn't have any other qualified candidates. I'm going to take my PhD (that they paid for) and all my skills and find some place that will actually pay me.
