Our latest employee is young and she’s amazing and is young!

This is exactly how our manager described a new hire during a meeting. As someone over 40, it sounds discriminatory every time I hear this statement made at work. We have DEI policies in place which talk about everything besides blatant ageism by managers. It feels discriminatory everytime I hear this in meetings where they talk about a new employee joining in. And despite my tolerance, I find it disturbing that they keep referring to this without understanding the bias it brings in because it implies that older employees dont get with the program. Ageism is real and managers don’t understand of have the capacity to see that talking about how one is young or old is discriminatory and ageist! Or am I just not understanding the situation and over reacting here? What’s your experience been like?
