I just want to rant and this could land in a lot of places but I picked antiwork because I believe this is another bad effect of capitalism and corporate greed.
First off, if you are looking on me to hate on outsourced talent, you can bugger off, that is not what this is about.
My work is outsourcing like crazy. These are temp contractors with various degrees of experience. When they backfill roles in my country, the seats are being filled with work visa folks from the country we are outsourcing to.
I’ve had some issues with a couple of the new folks, they are causing messes in ways that I know I need to escalate on. The added pressure of needing to tell on someone who… if they get fired… would be deported within 60 days without work. It’s just so gross. If I get fired, so what? I don’t have to move, I wouldn’t need to leave the country with my whole family in 60 days… it gross. I don’t want to participate in it.
I also see that these workers get paid less, are often on contract work with promises of salary, and don’t get to take in the same benefits
At one job, as a salary worker, I was given catered lunch everyday. Contract workers did not get that benefit. So here I would come, plate full of food, sit down next to my coworker who has every skill I have, and she has to eat her own lunch? Wft? We sit at the same table but she didn’t get health insurance… Or PTO… it just feels so gross.
Work also tends to clump these folks together on teams that work different from the rest of the org… which means we aren’t even getting the benefit of diversity. It all sucks and I hate this system.
