Overtime Pay – Computer Employee – Honest Question

How tight are the regulations on this? I may need to ask this in a different forum. My example. Let's say we get paid a salary of $100k/yr. Normally, we do the work software design and development work outlined in my job description. If that was it, there would be no questions. However, we are required to go out on deployments and it looks like we will be doing an increased rate over the next few years. These are multiple weeks per deployment with having to be onsite for 12-14 hours per day. On deployments, We do not write code. We don't write specs. We are glorified tech support. So, when I'm working on my usual duties, I'm exempt. But when I'm on deployment, am I entitled to overtime pay since I'm not performing duties that are exempt? Or could my employer come back and say we could be asked…

Or could my employer come back and say we could be asked to perform exempt duties therefore not entitled to overtime pay?
