Do not ever let yourself be too close to your boss / I work for a childish, egocentric, barely competent karen

Hi. I got to apologize right now for this post who wil be quite long, with a bit of antiwork, a bit of Karen, a bit of Iamthemaincharacter and a bit of AITAH. To set right now the background, I work in some kind of private school in southern France, near the sea. And I'd like to share you some of the stories of my workplace, if you don't mind. I've been working here for now near 1 years so, even if I'll try to keep that post readable and in a chronological order, I've got to warn you right now that I will probably fail. In order to keep you interested and to give you the best example of what I have to endure, I'd like to start by telling you how our concerns about our visibility on the web turned. Facing competition, my boss wanted…

Should of listened

I left a sales job after 3 years with him due to declining market and business was going under. I took this job thinking it be a great option for me and my son. The minute I started on day one I knew I messed up. They were very disorganized, cold and stand offish. The head of sales department told me to train with them and learn all youcan. They told me to not bother then and just sit in the office all day and watch videos. I did that for 3 weeks and kept emailing and contacting the head sales what is going on. He kept telling me he'll look into it. This went on for a month of just sitting in the office all day and not getting anything. After making so many calls I got to go out one time with him and learn the field. told…

The antiwork movement is an attempt to undermine the American economy

Just kidding, thats 100% clickbait. Hello! I am an aging man. I love the antiwork movement and think it is a good direction for American workers. I came here to caution those of you who are still young (including late 20s and early 30s) and new to this movement. Make sure you have a backup plan. Now some folks already know this and do this: they believe in this movement but they reserve a safety net for themselves through working a steady job and saving (if possible). But there are some folks who see this movement and stop working, which only leads to their own financial suffering and demise. Again, not saying “hey dont be antiwork”. Im saying, “Hey lets keep the movement going, but make sure you are taking care of yourself too!” At the end of the day, we need to be a strong people. If we are…

Girl friend work OT without OT Pay.

My girl friend works 50 to 60 hour weeks at a wedding farm in Florida. She makes 16ish an hour and is told she doesn't get over time because of the FLSA Agricultural ot exemption. She works on a farm where weddings happen but has nothing to do with farming. With the little knowledge I/We have on this were hoping someone could confirm that this is indeed legal or not. Any guidance would be great thanks!

Leave of Absence legal paperwork is bullshit

Sorry if this is not the right place to post, let me know where I should go instead. An extremely long story short: I loved my job, got a new boss, I like her as a person but as a boss she stressed me out so badly that I stopped eating, stopped taking care of myself, and can only sleep a few hours per night if I’m lucky. I already had been diagnosed with mental health issues, so handling this was difficult and set me back a lot. I became extremely suicidal (still am, right now). I let her and her manager know how I was feeling and that I needed the time off. I was a contracted worker for years, but just recently became an actual employee. I took the LOA, but then found out that since I was considered as a technically new employee, that I was only…

Does anyone know anything about notice periods? Should I feel guilty if I put in my week’s notice?

I've never been on this subreddit but my cousin told me to post here for employment advice. I'm a female who is 24. If it's relevant, I was diagnosed with Asperger's (high functioning autism) as an adolescent so I'm not sure what's normal or acceptable in this scenario. I'm on the verge of a breakdown, my mental health is really suffering. I have worked in this job for 10 months but I don't even want to go back for another day. I've been applying for other jobs and have savings so money isn't an issue. One reason is how mismanaged the place is, everyone has left so the team has been halved and this puts so much pressure on me, the work is constant and nonstop and I keep making constant and stupid mistakes and my confidence self esteem is at its lowest. PLUS, **everyone** is always coming…

Every job has exploited me in some capacity

This year I decided to leave hospitality and retail in the dust, as I overworked myself almost to death for a dead-end, profit-driven job. I used to study at university full-time and I’d work countless hours in between school to keep myself afloat since my parents live far away and they’ve overworked themselves, too, with little money to show for it. The money they earned went to a mortgage and also a lot of booze. I always had an intense work-ethic out of survival, and always took the initiative to learn more and make myself seen, in hopes of growing in the business, despite having that leftist chip on my shoulder regarding being exploited financially by numerous small businesses – cafes, trades, even real estate. I’ve gone absolutely nowhere in my life with my attempts, except for jumping job to job. This time, I thought I’d be passionate about a…
