So let me get this straight. I’m not supposed to come in sick, but if I call out it counts against me?

Please make it make sense. I’ve had Covid twice this year and I’m getting shit from my covering manager because of it. Do they just want me to come in and get others sick? I don’t understand. It’s not like I wanted to test positive.

Fired after 2 months from entry-level job feeling hopeless

Hi guys, I was fired from my first real job out of college after just two months in training, for “performance reasons” despite the fact that my performance was always praised and I never received a clear warning from management. They completely blindsided me and left me with literally no hope for the future, I have been applying for jobs every day with very little luck, I have just been sinking deeper and deeper into depression and can barely make it through the day without having a panic attack.

still have access to survey site

Throwaway account I was fairly high up in the organization of my previous employer. When it came time to work on an accreditation renewal, a segment of the renewal dealt with stakeholders satisfaction, so it was decided that the survey account I had created for a previous project would be used to send out to stakeholders which happened to include staff. This survey site has an app which I had downloaded to my phone for convenience sake during the first project. I had eventually left this place because it was apparent that current leadership would only due the bare minimum to keep skeleton staffing levels which negatively affected service delivery. They did not take employee concerns seriously, complained about staff regularly, and gave newer staff concessions that would cause friction between veteran staff (for instance: a newer staff would be able to refuse a job assignment but a veteran staff…

Final Paycheck issue

Hi everyone, I need some advise on my final paycheck issue with my former employer. I turned in my 2 weeks notice in August and my last day was 8/18. I was supposed to get paid my last paycheck on 8/25, but didn't receive it. So I contacted my former employer and received a response on 8/30 that there was some issue with payroll processing software, and I would get paid on next pay day. I know by law that I was supposed to be paid on 8/25, but since I left the company in a good term, and it wasn't like I needed that money to survive, so I decided to wait. The next payday came and I still didn't get paid so I contacted my former boss and he just said he already talked to the person who handles the payroll, and please wait couple more days. And…

Getting ripped off because I’m “still a child”

I recently left my grocery store job that was paying me $14.50 an hour due to them cutting my hours almost in half for no reason. They said they were hiring full time, I applied for a full time position, but once I started they said the best they could do was 39.5 hours, not counting the mandatory half hour breaks every day. So really I was working 37 hours a week. The past few weeks they've brought that down to 20 and started interviewing people for my position. I applied to a new place because I have about 3 years of kitchen experience. I've been working at restaurants since high school, am ServSafe certified, and even did a couple college prep and college culinary classes before I was forced to drop out. They were hiring for a prep cook during the day and line cook at night. The salary…

Companies asking employees to “donate” PTO is bullshit.

I will always refuse to do this regardless. For one, it's not my problem but the company's and often pressure is put on employees who don't have children. Also, it's a direct result of the USA's bullshit refusal to require paid sick and vacation time and refusal to adopt universal healthcare. America is the greatest country? Fucking hardly

Got Covid from coworkers that the company let come back a DAY after testing positive.

Basically a rant and also curious if I have any recourse against the company: Over the weekend we find out 3 of our coworkers who all work in the same small space got Covid. Monday comes a calling and 2 of those people are BACK IN THE BUILDING! To make matters worse I was assigned to a job in that same small space and wasn’t told any of this information about the Covid until I see one of the employees walk in. I immediately left the area and told my supervisor I would not continue working in the same space as them. Fast forward to Thursday and lo and behold I am now sick with Covid! So now I’m losing time by staying home and the company just keeps moving forward. Absolutely sucks

Here’s how I’ve played psychological games to get ahead at my jobs

I used to go to work, be all nervous and mess things up, ask questions and basically came off as clueless and like I wouldn’t work out. The moment I just chilled, came in and said absolutely nothing while being shown what to do, just did my best to emulate exactly what I see others doing (and do it better), and never talked trash on anyone, I started getting along with people and getting promotions. Hasn’t let me down, I just stop being my normal self and just approach it like I’m already smart enough for the job. I stopped talking when on the job for the first month, and just worked and listened, and watched. It’s a game changer and makes it look like I’m comprehending and picking things up quickly. I do, but I also am just winging it. TLDR: Stop asking questions unless absolutely necessary, keep quiet,…

Fired for not making coffee at a credit union

This happened about 6 months ago and I now have another position but it still rocked me hard. I was working at a credit union on a 9 month contract, and they had decided at that time they were expanding their business to incorporate a coffee house element (I don’t get it either). They moved me over there to be trained to become a manager since I came in with kitchen experience (the place is pretty comparable to a Panera/SLB). I was in this position for about 3 months, this is after 6 months of high praise within other positions in the company. One day, I got a written warning for swearing in the kitchen, this coming after I had a terrible day where my then car broke down and stopped working. I had to take a day off work to get a new vehicle, first loan for a ride…
