Feels good…
Gave 5wks notice of time off request, manager denied. Tendered resignation with 2wk date landing on the first day of my time off request. This is the response I got, just a cog.
About 2 hours ago I was fired without warning due to attendance issues…. I missed work on Tuesday due to getting my car fixed and I told my boss I wasn’t coming in and he was well aware of that. I rarely missed work before that. I worked about 48-57 hours a week most times. This was a temp job I was at for a year… yes a year. This was the case with most temps who got hired in 2022 nobody was permanent. I was also looking for other opportunities just in case something like this would happen but didn’t expect it. Got a call from my recruiter who broke me the news while I was still working. She was absolutely shocked that it happened and surprised I was still working there at the time she called. All my coworkers were shocked when it happened and were pretty sad…
The bus driver even organized a replacement on his own but the company refused that one to drive, and insisted he continues by taking out his time card.He refused and was fired on the phone, so he left. Red cross and police had to come and save the passengers.
This is anectodal as it just relates to the small scale organic grocery store I was recently rehired at after finishing university, so keep that in mind. I last worked at this store very shortly before the pandemic broke out. While I was working there the margins were roughly industry standard with around a 30% markup for regular grocery items. Some hot sellers had bigger margins, other items had less. My position lets me look in our system to see the markup on certain goods. Now, after being absent, most items I see average about 40% markup with some items even getting up to 50% markup. This means you're paying half of the cost of the item to the store for the honor of having them order it and place it on the shelf for you. Even meat, which used to have a margin of about 20%, now roughly sits…
Been there, done that ….
Our job is so understaffed and I can’t take it anymore so I made the tough decision to give my two weeks notice. I made sure to be kind and professional in my letter. My boss ripped my notice out of the envelope and glared at me then said “ok”. He gave me the cold shoulder all day and didn’t even say goodbye when he left. When my other coworker gave hers before me she asked if the reason she was quitting was because of me. I’m lowkey worried he’s gonna try to fire me before my two weeks are up to try abs save face. He’s kinda making me feel bad to be honest
Getting work
If you’re unemployed, you’re unemployable. If you do things to keep busy and show that you’re not lazy, then your schedule isn’t open enough for the job. Can’t win.
