I've been with my current employer for 5 years. Incredibly small, when I came onboard in 2018 there were only 3 guys doing work and 1 estimating. By 2020 we were 5 installers strong with 2 estimators. Now, in 2023 I am the only fully qualified installer, with 1 behind me, and 2 newbies, 3 estimators, the owner, and his best friend who is the “VP of operations”. I've gone from and installer, to lead installer, to project manager in that time. My problem is how distasteful it has been to work for the owner. His treatment of us has been really back and forth. This is a list of the things he's said to me: -“Maybe you're not cut out for this kind work.” -“We put you in this position because we thought you could handle it.” -“It's like your heart just isn't in it.” -“I can't have you…
From now on when a boss says something about work/life balance I'm just going to tell them that I'll be working 3.5 days per week, 25 weeks per year. You know, for balance.
I’m going to buy a house
I don’t want to return to work
In early August I was laid off from my IT job. I was pretty bummed since the pay was pretty decent and I had next to zero responsibilities. But I took it as an opportunity to work on the projects I had going on within my hobbies. I finished one which I'm really proud about and a bunch of people liked it. Not having to work for someone else doing a job I didn't want to do and just being able to work on things that I enjoyed felt freeing. Of course I was searching for a new job the whole time. Had a few interviews and I received a job offer last week. My first day starts in a few hours at the time this is posted. I don't want to return to a job. Having this last month “off” was great, honestly. I'm dreading going back to work…
“Growth opportunities all around!”
I've sadly learned that this is a big lie among corps. You come in at a job where they “facilitate growth and help you with your ambition”, but they will never truly help you. Because it's “a future plan” and “you still have lots to learn in the meantime”. I didn't sign up for soul sucking data entry but here we are, getting along with my network and job offer offices to find something else. Go for what you want or stay a while to get the competences needed for what you want to do in a job, but don't expect much of growth opportunities in job ads.
Is this ilegal?
I work as a delivery driver for a company that sells produce every week they make us sign a waiver for our lunch breaks. And if during our route, we want to take a lunch break we have to let them know so they could take off 30 minutes off our paycheck This is in California by the way
This job is going to be the death of me.
I took an office job, thinking it would be a chill nice environment where I wouldn’t get over anxious and stressed every 5 minutes. Boy was I wrong. Not only has this job overstressed me, it’s literally completely different than what I thought I’d be doing. All I want to do is quit. I think about it everyday. But I have nothing to fall back on until somewhere else hires me. Which could take another month. I wish I listened to myself and said no to this job offer. But I have no money to just quit. It’s just one big cycle that keeps you in the system. I feel so depressed, so stuck, and I just want this all to end.

What does open budget mean?
I saw the job post na ang sahod is P50,000. Then I got a call ng same job and said the budget is “open” daw depending on the right candidate. I am hoping to get P150,000. Realistically, open ba talaga sila to P150,000? or I should not waste my time with them?
