The world right now is very inefficient and corrupt. If things are efficient to the optimum, and there’s unity over greed/competition, I bet we can have a 3-day workweek and can be retired by 35.

Today I quit my summer job

I'm 17, this is my first summer working. I spent all of July washing the dishes at a restaurant, people there were sexist, racist, homophobic, but I won't even dive into that because unfortunately that was not even the worst part of this summer (which at the time I didn't think was possible). I was supposed to work during the whole month of August in a gingerbread shop. It's a cute little shop, I thought it was nice and was sure that I would have a much better time than in the restaurant. Boy was I wrong. So, like I said I was originally supposed to last the whole month of August. But I was doing a lot of mistakes, and as a result they treated me like absolute garbage. The boss wouldn't even call me by my name, he would refer to me as “thingy”. Whenever I was not…

I’ve found there are no jobs that pay a decent wage.

What I mean, is that I have switched careers many times looking for that career that paid a GOOD wage. The kind where I'm not worried about food and bills, and I could pay a shop to work on my car when needed. Here's what I've found, ALL jobs pay close to the same, 15 to 20 an hour, unless you are in a state where the minimum is 7.25, then it is much worse. You will more than likely never make it out of poverty. Some of the careers I'm talking about are, teaching, construction/concrete, retail, trucking, restaurants, logistics etc more than likely most careers. It seems like in order to get a decent job you need to get in with the “good ole boys club”. It's outright impossible!!!!

America is only good for one thing

I come from a family of immigrants, but I was born and raised in the US. I understand both cultures (if you consider “American” a culture), and growing up- I never understood why my parents and uncles/aunts worked their asses off in the US but would go back to the motherland to spend their money. A few years ago, I met an Uber driver from Turks and Caicos. Amazing guy, and I started talking to him about how I also did Uber, alongside many of my cousins who recently came to the US and are doing Uber for work. He basically told me he does the same thing my parents and uncles have been doing for a long time now- he works Uber and some side jobs, month to month, and then goes back to his home to spend that money. He gets his medical work done there, dental work,…

Has anyone ever gotten a job off of indeed?

I remember while I was applying for jobs while I was new in town I must've applied to every job in the city but I got probably 4 responses out of nearly 300 applications. 2 of then were scams, one was a call center paying 13.50 an hour, and the other was a security guard position. The only reason I have a job now is because I happened to walk into my current company and they were hiring. My girlfriend is experiencing the same thing. I'm starting to think that indeed is some bullshit that companies use for tax write-offs.

Offer letter signed, start date given, left current job, hardware received, then “contract rescinded”….

I'm at a complete loss here… I recently interviewed at Microsoft as an Infrastructure Engineer, and was given an offer the same day. I was super excited and signed on and received a start date. I put in my two weeks at my current job and was set to start on Monday. I received my laptop and other hardware from the contracting company, and waited for the start date. Start date came and I received a call stating that the offer was “pulled”, and the contract house had never seen such a thing happen…. I'm now jobless and left wondering what went wrong, and how I will pay my bills moving forward. Has this happened to anyone else?? I would totally be fine if they just gave me a reason that I can work with or improve on, but instead, I'm left in the dark and back to looking for…

Employee of the year, first to be laid-off.

A guy in my corporate office was crowned employee of the year two years in a row. One day he walked by my office with a file box full of desk supplies. I jokingly said “Did they finally fire you?” thinking he was just moving his office or something. Turns out he was THE FIRST person let go in a string of layoffs. I was told later that they deemed his excellent work as non-essential. It was the red pill / blue pill moment in my career. I am now self employed.

Quit my job about 6 months ago. Had a sad realization

I realized that everytime I walked into work with my work shirt the amount of times I was stopped with a coffee in my hand on my break people still stopped me to ask for help. Did the same act with sunglasses on, I noticed the odd pause and realization on their faces when they realized I was on break. The majority of customers do not look at our faces. They truly see us as npcs. Dialog tree just ready to go. Just kinda weird coffee break thought.
