I hate calling on call.

For reference, I work overnights at a plant and I'm the only one there. It is possible to run this small plant with only one person but the overnight work SHOULD be done by two people (another topic). I do NOT like calling on call, for any reason. I don't want to. I get that those guys chose their job and knew they'd have to be on on-call sometimes but I don't like it. I don't like waking them up, I don't like disturbing their rest, and I especially don't like when they have to attend to something. I woke them from a good sleep just so they can hear about some bs alarm. I get it, we need them on standby in case an emergency comes up for whatever reason because I can't leave. Second interview ooops.

My son-in-law was called back for a second interview at a local company – had to take off work twice, but he’s looking to move from current employer for some good reasons, so it’s fine. Shows up early, checks in with reception, HR comes down, “What are you doing here?” Turns out, they called back the wrong candidate. And didn’t apologize. Just sent him on his way. Guess what the write up for that company looks like on GlassDoor and Indeed?

Why are servers expected to do so much for so little pay?

I quit my job as a server recently because all of my coworkers were talking about me behind my back (luckily I worked with a good friend who would tell me who said what) and I’m really frustrated with the work mentality they had. I was getting paid $2.13/hr but no matter how much work I did it just wasn’t enough. I love serving and I put SO much time and effort into my tables because that’s where my paycheck came from. There were a bunch of other things we had to do that just didn’t feel fair to do at such low pay, so I would always do them when I had time rather than making them a priority. A solid plan

I realize this is off topic but I understand a lot of people here want change l, and if you want change vote in local government. The amount of voters in local government is so small your vote actually counts and if you get other young people in your town you could pool your money and votes to make changes such as -Building low income housing -Changeing zoning -Infastrucure improvement -Green energy -Better laws for workers It will be hard and there is no guarantee, but if no one steps up nothing will ever change

7 Years of hard work and still didnt mean anything to my employer

Sorry for the long read, just wanted to share my experience. I worked at a resort for 7 years. Coming out of the military I expected to find a career in criminal justice; this led to landing a seasonal overnight security position at the resort. I quickly fell in love with industry and had some of the best coworkers ive ever had the pleasure of working with. I went from my seasonal position to managing the day-to-day operations within 4 years. Having worked many departments in those 4 years and having a strong IT background led me to being the go-to person when something is wrong with a guest, system, or just if any problem were to arise. What is going on???

Long: Context: I’m 3 months into a new agency role and things have been going great for the most part. Hybrid work from home. I’ve been getting along well with everyone, delivering to deadlines and getting great feedback from the client, haven’t drop the ball here once. I’m assigned to 2 clients, client #1 has an OG designer who is solely focussed on them and I’m split. He’s been there for some time, is quite introverted and sometimes gives me a hard time about doing things a certain way but I take this feedback on. Today I had a catch up with my manager out of the blue and received some pretty harsh feedback that has made me to feel like I’m in need of handholding and am doing a lot wrong?? What’s a reasonable time to cancel a shift?

Was notified about a shift but the hours only totalled to 5 hours instead of the minimum 7 hours negotiated. And no official schedule emailed. Not feeling it so cancelled with the office to inform it’s not financially feasible with taxes and transport to be working for such low hours and to arrange for an alternative. Fast forward a few hours got a text from the owner begging me to work, even mentioning to add in more clients. As the staff has no “decision making” power. And I initially “didn’t want that much hours.” Mind you I don’t make tips just base pay. AITA!?
