Mileage One Way

My company just changed its policy to reimburse mileage for travel one way to events outside the office. Like do we have any expectation to go home?

Overpaid in March. Leaving This Week (August). Just Now Asked to Repay £1800…

So yeah, I immediately brought this to Payroll's attention in March, got promptly ignored, followed up, barely got a response 2 days before my contract ends… asking for £1800 in repayment. Yeah fuck this, I'm not working the last 2 days of this contract. (For the record, I had set aside what I thought was the overpayment — they just informed me days before leaving that I was mistaken and actually owe nearly double what I have set aside.)

Need advice on how to handle this problem at work (dangerous and underpaid, can I sue?)

TLDR: My paperwork I signed when I started working here says I work from 7 PM to 7 AM, but they require us to sign in at no later than 6:45 PM. At 6:46 PM you will receive a point and at 7 you get fired. Since the paperwork I signed and they signed says 7 PM (even ADP says 7) but they’re giving out points and firing people for clocking in at 6:46 can I sue them for firing me over it if I get fired for this? What will I need for this to work? I left my family for this crap… I am a Flexographic Print Press Operator and I’m not bad at it either (I tend to care too much and work too hard). Last November I started working here and I was originally hired on for a non printing role because I was only planning…

Tips to get through it

I have worked at my fast food job for 3 years on and off (i didn’t work last year because i was away at college, now have been working 6 days a week since may to make money for school.) The new crew are really toxic, with one guy even being a relative of the owner so he gets to do whatever he wants. Every day is miserable. Today I called out because I ordered an ipad and don’t want to leave it sitting around while I’m not home. My manager have me grief, but I don’t even care. My last day is August 19th and I’m practically losing my mind counting down the days. I have made one true friend because everyone else is fake. She only works Tuesdays and Wednesdays though. I need the money, but it’s just miserable there. This experience has made me realize why minimum…

Should I leave my work, second week in, if I’m not certain I’d find another one?

This requires an explanation. I have started working at an alehouse last week. When I talked with the boss over the phone it seemed he had a vision for this place, and I was immediately sold. I have some experience as a bartender, I consider myself polite, meticulous and good with people. With my help, I hoped, this place could once again return to what it was. I accepted this “ambitious” undertaking, and started working there last week. Immediately off the bat I realized something was wrong. There were almost no customers. Odd guest here or there, but sometimes a whole day would pass without a single guest. Then there was the fact they only had one employee (prior to me), and she was working BOTH kitchen and bar for nearly a year, completely alone. Even worse, boss called her stupid and incompetent (both to her face and behind her…

When they ask “why do you want to do this” or “why do you want to work here”, what is the right answer?

I never really understood these questions very much because I guess I’ve always been mostly just interested in the money, but what are the socially acceptable answers for pursuing a certain career path or wanting to work at a certain organization?

What happened to me

I was working at this job for about a year. It was ok and I got to work from home which is nice. My wife has a chance at a promotion at her job but it's half way across the country (US). So I talk to my manager and they are ok with me moving…. but my manager comes back and says that because of where I'm moving to there may be a pay adjustment. He goes on to explain that part of a workers pay is dependent on the area of the country they live in. I've heard of this before, I don't like it but I'm like ok. My manager then says that the area I'm moving to has a lower pay but since I'm at my 1 year review, they would just keep my pay the same and call it my raise and then my pay wont…

“Include numbers and percentages on your resume”

People are always stating, include numbers and percentages on your resume. Everyone is on the same page that 90% of those percentages 97% made up, right? most people aren't working out Personal Percentage Increase = ((New Revenue – Old Revenue) / Old Revenue). Most people who are applying for jobs don't even have access to these numbers.

Update on Job Hunt

So I went to a job fair for CNA’s & PCA’s. The position was to go to CNA school while also being on call, as you would get paid while training. Those with CNA licenses would jump ahead in front of everyone else. When I told them that I was challenging the board for my license I was made to skip ahead in-front of every body else. This is where things get messy. I passed my interview, was given a background check, but no offer of pay, or start date. After getting tired of waiting I called HR and told them what had happened. I even told them that I was successful with getting my CNA license. They would get me in contact with a recruiter (who wasn’t a recruiter but rather the person who ran the event) who would then pass me on to another recruiter. This whole debacle…
