New job is bordering on illegal management of tips

So I have been DESPERATE for a job for the last few months and finally landed a barista gig (with 3 years of experience). First red flag, the “technical” interview was an hour of unpaid cleaning. I got the job, did my training days, and went in for my first shift. We don't get tipped out on training days (makes sense) but I was told I would earn my tips on my first real work day. After a day of work, I was informed that I would only get a percentage of my usual tips because the owners had decided my latte art wasn't appealing enough and I therefore could not serve drinks. Here's the kicker, the only other person I was working with that day was the owner. We split the tips 30/70 as was her decision. Additionally, I was informed that a payment I took didn't go through…

Gaslighters be gaslighting

I left a toxic work environment almost two years ago. Not only did I walk to a competitor, I walked over to run the competitor business in a role they always assumed I wasn’t capable of. After I left they did everything to trash my reputation even as my awards from my time there kept coming in (they wouldn’t let me pick it up and blocked me on all social media) they also trash talked me so much a top employee refused to sign an employment transfer to that office because of the horrific things said about me during a dinner she was at. HR quietly noted to me they were not comfortable handling this particular executive which is what led to my resignation. Know his mentor got tossed out for very bad things being caught on tape. Yet they side step his conduct. Two years later, and absolutely crushing…

Is it a red flag if the company asks for desired wage before the interview?

It was through an automated text questionnaire. The base range was from about 18-28 and I chose 25. I know that isn't the advice this sub gives but the anxiety that I wouldn't be considered if I chose 28 was weighing hard, man.

I wonder if this is a red flag. /s

I work at a utility company with poor management and about 300 employees. The benefits include a pension, but outside of that its weak. 5 days vacation, 6k deductible on health insurance, no paid leave for paternity and no dental. So, in the last 3 weeks. The entire HR department has resigned. We now have no HR and the executives don't seem to want to do anything about it. I am probably gonna leave as well, outside of the HR dept. turnover has been pretty bad. Working as IT i see everyone who comes/goes because I create/deactivate their accounts. Only reason I'm staying currently is I have a baby due in dec and have met my deductible this year.

Thoughts on job hopping?

Older people shame people (especially younger) when they can’t stay at a job longer than a year. Personally, I’ve made significantly more with each job since graduating college. However, I get really tired of the job, team, and overall work culture (or lack thereof). Does it look bad when you’re applying to a new job even if you haven’t been at your current one for at least a year? For me, it’s obviously about money and also about career growth, if I feel stuck then I need to leave. I’m in nyc too so the job market is tough.
