So I've been working at this online media company (part of a large holding) for almost 6 years now, first in a junior role (for the first two years) and then “sort of” got promoted to a managerial position after my boss was unceremoniously fired. At first, I was told by my boss's boss to make sure things are running smoothly at our department and I assumed he meant until my boss's replacement arrives. Well, it's been over three years and I'm still running this relatively small department (3 employees working under me). At first I was elated to not have to answer to my old boss anymore who tended to be petty and generally ran a very tight ship, then one month became two and no replacement arrived and I ended up waiting for two years before asking for a raise (I know big mistake) obviously because of all…

Lot of people on this sub keep repeating this mantra of 'labour, not work' but fail to explain what they mean by this. Also, would be very curious to hear how people understand how any society can function if no one undertook any work/labour? Perhaps this is obvious to those that have been here a while but this is a sub with a lot of new people so it would be nice for someone to explain there thought process. To be honest I'm rather sceptical but open minded to hear out.

That's not the reason im quitting. I have wanted to move to a new speciality in my career anyway. I got an offer the same day my boss said we are all to go back into the office (which has not been the case since I started in 2019). I didn't even know this decision was coming. Killing WFH is not the reason I'm quitting. However its still fucking bullshit and I would be looking for a new job for this reason even if I didn't have an offer. Should I let them think it's because they want us back in the office? I have nothing to gain, except the satisfaction of telling them to (metaphorically) fuck themselves.

On the basis I wouldn't have to email or video call if I had questions or they needed to show me something urgently. I refused, and also provided a doctor's note to say I should work from home more frequently than I've been doing. Boss ignored it and asked me to come in on the days I've agreed. I came in today, on the hottest of year on record. Air cons turned off. I've had 5 hours due to medical issue my doctor is close to signing me off for due to works lack of accomodations. No one is here and my boss has taken the day off and only informed us today so I could have worked from home.

My brother is a welder, and told me this funny story. Last week at his job, He noticed that guys showed up, and started taking measurements of all kinds of things like tables and desk.
