Old School Antiwork?

I was working at a slowly failing restaurant around 1999-2000 New Year’s time. They had planned a huge extravagant dinner for a hefty reservation price, paying us handsomely, with bonuses, for working New Year’s Eve. As New Year’s eve approached they were not seeing the expected reservations, started reducing promised pay, and even fired a favorite general manager, replacing them with a terrible co-worker who everyone hated. A couple of days before New Year the new terrible GM called us all in for a team meeting telling us the reservations were way below expected, recanting on the promise of extra pay, and even told us people were “Jewing us on the price”. My manager and team LOVED me. I worked hard, was always early to work, took on extra shifts, and even moved up from bussing to waiting in record time. I’d planned to work the New Year’s Eve shift…

That’s it, teach your children early that the system does not value them and that all they’ll amount to is modern day slavery where you’re expected to do your boss’s job for them…

Am I scamming the disability program as a high functioning aspie?

A personal question here, but I plan on going on disability soon and am questioning it's morality. I'm a 21 year old living with my mother (tried college but dropped out from a stressful program), am high functioning autistic, & currently living off my dad's union trust fund left for me. I've attempted work in my small town of 1k people, both cleaning jobs. First was supposed to be part time at my old school, misunderstood it to be demo work on a house- I quit after two days as I get little exercise and wasn't used to swinging sledgehammers at drywall each weekday. 2nd attempt a part-time job at a motel that lasted two weeks, before being fired for poor quality work & not memorizing room layouts. This has admittedly created a fear of work in general, but I'm not sure if it would be moral to give into…

appreciate this sub

So glad this sub still exists. When I stumbled across this sub a long time ago I felt like I found a family I never knew I had. I had been feeling like this for so long and I felt like I was alone. So glad I'm not(:

What can we do to make things better?

I recently moved to a new city and have been working odd jobs until I can find something that sticks, right now I’m looking into finding another new job because the one I’m at right now isn’t giving me a healthy work/life balance. I’m really discouraged by the way things only seem to be getting worse in terms of working conditions in the US, and I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. It’s nice to see all the ideas floating around this sub and other places online- things like shorter work weeks, higher wages, more unions- but it just feels like nothing is actually happening, like nothing is changing for the better and it’s not going to. Maybe I’m being a bit too pessimistic and looking in the wrong places, but it’s really hard to feel hopeful right now. I can’t say I’m any sort of expert in…

I thought everywhere was hiring?

This is obviously a huge your mileage may vary situation, but it has definitely hit close to home in this regard. Between three people, we've all been applying to jobs. Myself, just because. I'm already a union employee and make great money, but I thought it'd be amusing. My wife is currently unemployed due to medical reasons, but looking to get back to work after getting her health more in check. Previously she was doing medical/insurance coding type work. A friend of ours has a long background in skills that include machining, welding, things of that nature. He's employed, but is fed up with his current employer's revolving door of new employees that start out making more than him and the additional workloads that fall on him because of it. Looking to find a new employer who does similar work and hopefully snag himself a pay raise. So we've all…
