I’ve worked at this company for nearly a year, I had a near perfect attendance with like 3-4 late days, I would come in on weekends and help after hours, I was the perfect employee when he had people quit without notice, just stopped showing up, or would apply but never show up. Im going back to school, so I thought I would give them one more week of work because they were going out of town to a big job we’ve been working on for a while. I didn’t want to leave my coworkers in the shit so I thought it would be nice and respectful to at least show I cared. But no, he’s mad I didn’t tell him yesterday before I consulted with my family, before I asked them if it was okay. This guy honestly perplexes me. I’ve never had to quit a long term job…
March 2021, my dad collapsed whilst out for a run. Luckily, he collapsed 500m from a fire department, and someone saw him fall so they went to get help. First responders were there within 4 minutes, and he was loaded onto an ambulance and rushed to the hospital. He was given blood thinners immediately. During all of this, my dad was mumbling with his speech, and unable to walk. Surprisingly after 72 hours, my dad was able to walk and talk (for the most part) again (doctors were shocked how quickly he recovered). When he got home, he had a text from his boss wanting him to work the following week (this was a Thursday he got home), and the boss wanted him working the next Monday… my dad replied back and was able to get a month off (thanks to a doctors note), that month eventually turned into 3…

People pleasers in the work place
So I’ve never posted here, but I think it’s time.. First, some back story; I’ve been working for a regional pool and recreation company for the last year, working as their lead chemical (pools and hot tubs) salesperson for a year. I was named “rookie of the year” at our end of year banquet, and given 2 (small) raises while there. I was praised for my work. Well around May, the work load was starting to be too much, I was taking care of all the inventory, selling, and educating in my department, I had reached my “cap” for my position, and they were bringing in another guy from another store to completely change my entire department. I’d had enough and put in my notice. They let me leave before my two weeks were up but a few days after leaving, the regional manager called and essentially begged me to…
This is for people that tell me I am lazy. I worked low income jobs tip jobs for 17 years. This is for people who tell me to just get another “job” and big ok with it. I say hell no. People have no idea how hard life was working those kinds of jobs for 17 years. I was nearly robbed on numerous occassions, harrassed, yelled at. I know everyone has to work jobs like this at some point but I just got burnt out by it and people telling me to do it “again”. My father. They can well you know what I mean. This is for all those low income workers that were told just go get a job and all your problems will be solved. #antiwork, #exploitive capitalism, #Iamahumanbeingnotconsumer. I have taken a break from “work” since covid started. I have never been healthier, stronger, or more…
The quality of the work we do matters
Fired roughly an hour ago immediately after telling my boss I wasnt coming in tomorrow because I have divorce problems that need handling. They're not claiming it's because of this absence and others dating back the last 6 weeks (health reasons) but it's more or less implied. Zero warning, zero negative actions just boom “you're fired”. That being said I'm more than aware of people in the store who have double digit late calls or call outs in a shorter time frame who, not surprisingly, still have their jobs. Do I have the grounds to stand on or am I just screaming into the wind.
