Throwaway for obvious reasons. My coworker told me that bathroom breaks count as my break and any time I take in the bathroom is taken off my break. I don’t think this is very fair, because I sometimes use a bathroom break as a way to collect myself when overwhelmed due to my anxiety [disorder] I don’t know how to bring this up to my boss, because I’m scared he’ll think I’m making it up for attention. I’m going to be leaving this job when I find a new one, but I’m becoming more and more jaded towards this job as time goes on and that day I felt especially angry at my situation. I didn’t show it, because I remain professional at work. I was told I don’t get a whole fifteen minute break that day because I “took a bathroom break” when I hadn’t taken one that day.…
old Restaurant Job
Years ago, I worked in a kitchen at a restaurant. This old couple(a Dr and his wife) consistently came in 5 minutes before close. Naturally, this used to piss everyone off, especially on a weeknight. They were friends of the owners, so they called a staff meeting. The Dr was a guest speaker at said meeting and proceeded to bring his credit card statement, which he assured us was ONLY used to dine out. He basically lectured us on how he spends more money on dining out than any of us made in a year, and was trying to scold us with that info. Mass walkout ensued the following weekend.
Was this audition really legal?
I applied for a lot of jobs since I’ve been out of work due to medical reasons. I really need the cash as I’m poor AF. I got a call back to a job to be a general manager at a skate shop. I did well on the first interview then they s asked if I wanted to do the second part of the interview stage which was an “audition”. He said it would be thirty minutes and the point of it was so asses my sales skills. I said yes and showed up. The “audition” was me getting a run down on the store and basically working for FREE for thirty minutes. I got carried away and when I realized it an hour had past. It wasn’t until I said something that they realized time was up. I really didn’t want to do it but again, this is the…
Should i switch?
I dont know if this is the right place to ask this question but i currently work at amazon i am 1 month in as a north american customer support associate and the work hours are 9 hours 1 hour of break included 5 days a week and we have to take back to back calls with less than 2 mins gap in each call . The worst part about the job is customers taking out their frustration on me , few of them even go as far as to straight up being racist My previous employer is offering almost 50% of my current pay at amazon but the workload is less too since its chat and email support and its a small startup Im in a dilemma and the stress is causing me anxiety and is probably affecting my studies as well i am 18 as of now ,…
I'm one month into my dream job, but unfortunately, I have to work with a totally negative, shit-talking colleague and it has become mentally draining. Every conversation we have always leads to her oversharing issues she has with other colleagues. I don't want to cross her, but I've been documenting every negative thing she says, just in case I become her next target.
No Fed law requiring lunch break ?!
Started a new job and they waited until after I started to mention they don’t have lunch breaks or rest breaks🧐 Florida doesn’t have a law requiring one and there’s only fed law requiring one for minors. At least it’s only 9hr shifts tho
Called in on a Sunday
Still fuming from this morning. Family and I were all ready to go to church this morning when I got a strange call from my boss. He needed me in immediately and told me if I was unavailable to not bother showing up tomorrow. He is making me skip mass and if I don’t comply I am fired? Just not fair anymore
Laid Off on Last Day of Paternity Leave
This happened about 6 months ago, and overall it turned out all the best for me, but definitely shows corporate capitalism's true colors. I was hired about a year and a half ago by a startup that was building out their team for online marketing and operations. It was venture capital backed and expanding rapidly. It was an upgrade in pay and responsibility from my previous job, offered solid benefits, seemed like a no-brainer. Not to mention it was a remote position for a baby company that was super family oriented… Very aligned with my own growing family situation and values. Their benefits package offered 3 months fully paid maternity/paternity leave – a huge reason I accepted the job. To lay a little more background, completely unrealistic goals were in place because of incredible performance the year prior (first year of COVID boosted online sales tremendously), then we ran into…
