The pandemic changed how I think about work and life

It helped me realize that I was struggling and fighting to sustain a life that I hated anyway. Three weeks of the month I was working just to pay bills. Even when I type and read this now it feels absolutely insane to me that this is what most people experience. 40 hours a week isn't just 40 hours at work. It's the hours preparing for work. Thinking of work. Planning around work. Cancelling plans for work. Driving to and from work. Structuring your entire life around the need to be somewhere making someone else money. Having free time for just a few weeks and living as wealthy people already do has changed me. And sure there is still anxiety to be felt and dealt with. Rent is at an all time high. I'm constantly on the verge of losing my apartment. But you know, I always was if you…

My boss makes me work 8 days in a row, is that legal? (Canada)

Hi everyone, title says it all. I'm a full time student and part-time worker. Is working 8 days in a row legal? I know it's not only 8 hours shifts but still, help appreciated. https://preview.redd.it/hgganfljzra91.png?width=962&format=png&auto=webp&s=69f428bbb0bc8cd885ff03e3a02c998d4070393f https://preview.redd.it/7lc04s6hzra91.png?width=962&format=png&auto=webp&s=d23c508c416d5f7cd975ac813a297447961c22c0

no retirement plans

I work a private daycare job. I receive basic benefits but realized that I'm the only one in my household without any form of 401k or retirement savings. My job gave me a decent raise last year considering the industry but where I live the cost of living has also substantially increased. Should I dip and find a job where I take a paycut but will be offered a 401k and student loan forgiveness? It also should be mentioned that I have been experiencing serious burnout due to short staffing and terrible/rude communication from management that has made the quality of my job suck. If I leave the job I'd be leaving the childcare industry, as my job is the highest paying I've seen in a while (given I don't even make 50k a year).

Quitting job because of Bee allergy, being guilted into staying

I got stung by 3 bees in the past week and a half. Each resulting in emergency room visits. I went into anaphylaxis 3 times. I work as a lifeguard at an outdoor facility. I have worked there for 5 years (started at 15 as my first job) We are the lowest paid lifeguards in the area. I stayed because it is close to my home and they gave me good hours. In the 5 years I worked there I had never been stung by bees until now. There was a bee problem but it was handled by June. I know its an outdoor job and that was a risk. I feel bad quitting but my life is at risk and they wont spray for bees anymore.

One of those HR nightmares

If I’m being melodramatic with all this, please let me know. So, a few years ago, I was working for a mom and pop small business type that was convenient for me in terms of commute and the pay wasn’t GREAT but they gave me my first job in my chosen career field. “WE’RE A FAMILY!” types. Also, this place is an office and I feel as if that will help set the tone. I started working there with my sister who had a job that was similar to mine and she was the one who really got me hired on (they liked her and her friend was a big boss there too; I’m not going to lie, nepotism has typically been how I’ve gotten hired lol) so I figured it was gonna be a great place. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. The HR lady was an absolute ego tripping maniac…
