should I get a job?

I tried applying for Giant food stores and I highly believe they discriminated against me because of my mental health issues of course I can't prove it because they don't directly say it but their attitude really showed it. And if I can't get hired at a simple grocery store being a 24-year-old then I don't know where else I'm supposed to even try. That was my first interview in like 3 years. I get SSI but it's really not much because I can't even get a room with the SSI and all the charities near me are very religious and they seem to not want to help me at all. Honestly I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I'm being called lazy by old people while they say everyone is hiring when I can get hired at the basic simple jobs. I'm getting sick and tired of them…

My boss is testing my physical and emotional boundaries – what to do?

My boss has been very critical of me and kept texting me throughout an entire event telling me the content I’m shooting is wrong and that it shouldn’t be so difficult and general unnecessary berating. Basically he’s a known asshole in the company and he has been warned about his behaviour. However, I feel like lately he has been pushing my physical boundaries very slightly. Bare in mind he is presumably gay as he’s in a relationship with a man. However, he’s made a habit of touching my shoulder, gently poking my shoulder to get my attention and grabbing my shoulders. They’re all little gestures, sure, but I don’t notice him do them to our other coworkers. At the same event he was texting me throughout he even hugged me goodbye which was a little awkward and unnecessary. My friend made a joke that it sounds like he has a…

HBR is full of idealistic platitudes

In one HBR article, https://hbr.org/2021/02/promotions-arent-just-about-your-skills-theyre-about-your-relationships The author says “when you help others, you’ll feel great, and they will thank you for it. I love receiving notes from former team members and colleagues about what they’re doing now and how our work together helped them. It’s one of the reasons I became an executive coach.” The lack of nuance and simple-mindednesses of such concepts, with little applicability in the modern workplace context is annoying.

Certification verification OSHA Question

In an interview they asked me if I had any certifications. I told them Subpart R (steel erection, completely unrelated to the job I was interviewing for). Is there a way for them to look up who has what certifications through OSHA? I do not have this certification through osha but I’ve completed an equivalent on-the-job training program in the past. I’m sure they wouldn’t care considering it’s not related to the job I’m applying for, but I don’t want to come off as lying if they do seem to look that up. They didn’t ask me for any certification verification in the interview.

part four and final of leaving a job of 9 years

I'm a week into my new job and it's going well so far. I was very transparent with my former employer about interviewing and accepting a job offer. Followed by an ass kiss fest and lies about a counter offer I never received. Week before I tendered my resignation with a two week notice I'm met with statements like, “we can't lose you” “you're such a valuable asset ” ” we're understaffed and need you” Day I tendered my resignation I'm met with shocked looks, like how did yall not see this coming, it's been almost two months and I told you I accepted an offer. After day two of my notice I receive an email saying I was no longer obligated to fulfill my notice and I can arrange a pickup for my personal belongings and return any work property. Mind blowing to me, nine years, can't lose me…

The worst place to work

I worked at a place in Decatur Arkansas a few years back. I won't say the name for legal reasons. But you can probably Google the name and see the reviews. It's a 3 letter business that works in a warehouse facility that is so… rough… it should be illegal. They treat everyone like shit and their HR isn't helpful either. They also have security guards that arnt set up thru the state btw. But they treat them like 2nd hand crap compared to the 1st class people they treat like low class garbage. The place is filled with exhaust fumes from forklifts. Dirt and debre everywhere from trash, boxes, dust from outside and inside because it's in a warehouse that feels like a sweat shop (and they treat you like this too.) Hardly any fans that work or they are 11ft in the air with the roll up doors…

Best way to follow up from a pro-longed background and reference check?

Forgive me if this is not anti-work but I need help. I have a pending educational background and reference check post-interview for a job with the federal government here in Canada, but it has been a little more than 3 weeks now, is it supposed to take this long? I hear there is a backlog due to COVID and other issues but I’m not sure. Note: They did take almost 1 month to get back to me after my second interview so I was thinking maybe I should just keep waiting… If not, how do I politely follow up with them while appearing assertive but not impatient? Thanks for any insight/advice!
