The tipping culture in America is meant for the customer to subsidize the restaurant owners. And so the tipped minimum wage is super-low, with owners expecting customers to pay up. I'd rather tipping culture be scrapped in the US, with waitstaff wages coming solely from the restaurant. Sure, they could jack up the prices of food. Then, we'll just let the market decide.

I work at a terrible company that holds nepotism and narcissism as their core values. I’ve literally been told that the reason we are successful is because “we only hire people we know.” I’ve spent the last year and a half applying and networking and reapplying, trying to find my way to something else. I’ve redone my resume 5 times, reformatting and rephrasing every bullet point. I’ve applied to hundreds of jobs, often having had a conversation with someone inside the business beforehand. In all that time I have only had 3 interviews and never gotten past the first round. I feel like there has got to be a master list of people not to hire somewhere and somehow I got on it. I don't why I didn't honestly. Today I went in an gave a notice that I wouldn't be able to make it tomorrow. Needed a day off and they literally victim blamed and laughed at me, trying to worked me back into the schedule when I need to get checked out. I felt so embarrassed and almost humiliated for just being a human. I was so thrown off guard, it didn't register that my boss was actually talking to me the way they were. Sorry that I need time to myself? Sorry you can't do your job properly and hire more employees or learn basic empathy?

I work at a grocery store, recently my employer offered me a promotion. She made it sound as if I would be transferred to a different department. I was very happy to have received this offer as they currently have me working late hours at night and I no longer have a interest in working the front end. It’s worth mentioning the employer offered me this job via having my friend who was also offered the same promotion (there were multiple openings) text me asking if I wanted it. A week later while I was working the same manager approached me and informed me that actually I was going to primarily be in the front end as a higher rank and I would not move departments till a couple months as-well I would have to work even later hours consisting of closing the store at 12am.
