I just left my local Walmart. Every cashier lane has been replaced with self-checkouts. A massive cut in overhead, and a huge loss of local jobs. But does this translate to lower costs of goods sold? No. The difference flows directly into the pockets of the Waltons. So you've got more people without jobs and less money to sustain them. Self-checkout. It's an innovation, to be sure. But like so many things being developed these days, it exists not to make life better for society, but to make it better for the elite. This is why we have stagnated as a society. We are told that, without capitalism, we wouldn't have advancements in technology or medicine. But these advancements are done in the pursuit of profit, not the betterment of humanity. We innovate treatments for symptoms, not cures for disease. We innovate ways to turn the consumer into the worker,…
work less for more
Ive been working 16hr days the last week and intend to for the next 2. Were short handed and cant keep anyone despite offering decent pay (cost of living in area is stupid and our benefits suck) one of my 2 managers id being sent to a different location to be taught how to treat employees and im covering for everything. Tho it sucks to work this much its making me like 3k a week and im spending most of my day watching the boys or Invincible. Honestly its exactly what id be doing at home but im being paid OT to occasionally do something.
great first week at work
Finished up my first week of my new job and it's been great so far! Although the classroom based training is kinda exhausting since I've been doing it for a year already for my degree but not much else to complain there. Next week, my company has people flying in and giving them hotel rooms and rental cars for free. I was offered a room which I'm taking so I don't have to make such a long commute back home everyday so that's exciting. Training next week is gonna be 3-5 hours a day so the majority of my time is gonna be relaxing in my hotel room playing Elden Ring with my friends. I put my reimbursement mileage down and gave it to my boss so I should be expecting a nice check soon for that. Lunch is paid for by my employer on Monday so I get a…
As the title says. Throw away account for obvs reasons. I'm union, I get some paid bereavement days which is awesome. But state law also allows me to have up to 2 weeks of leave for bereavement. My boss asked me today when I'm coming back to work when I said I wouldn't be coming in on Tuesday as I have to assist my mom with the business side of death (which is fucked in it's own twisted way). Apparently a coworker is gone all next week on vacation and another one is supposed to be gone on Saturday and they're “counting on me being there”. Awaiting an email on Monday from our leave administration folks, but yeah. Sorry that my dad, the rock of my goddamn life, chose such an inconvenient time to die. And sorry I'm human and need to grieve.
Monday, I think I’m walking away.
Since starting in January 2021 it’s been a shit show and for 11.25/11.50 dollars an hour, it isn’t worth it. I ran a department I was transferred to against my will, I wasn’t the manager, I just killed myself trying to prove myself, shocker it wasn’t seen and I was only given a yearly “raise” of 25 cents. Add on top of that abuse from management, customers, then discrimination from coworkers and you get me, frustrated. I was also treated like a “rude” aggressor in a situation that wasn’t my fault, meanwhile the other guy played the victim and filed a complaint against me, so much for my loyalty. Fuck this place. Never again.
$2.13 / hr
Should owe them extra too
I just risked my life for 13.75 an hour
First things first. I'm under 18 and consider myself privileged for my parents to be financially stable. I by no means need a job but with college being fucking expensive even with scholarships I got a job anyway. I'm too young to be “anti work”as I do not need to work in order to live so I don't really know if this fits Now for the story: I got a job at my local waterpark last year and lucked out to work with great people. Today was opening day for said waterpark. Got there today, my lead assigned me to a slide. Everything was going smooth until I was on top of the second tallest slide tower in the park with 4 of my coworkers and we hear thunder off in the distance. We are quickly loading people into tubes while we wait to hear the whistle signaling that we…
