Finished up my first week of my new job and it's been great so far! Although the classroom based training is kinda exhausting since I've been doing it for a year already for my degree but not much else to complain there. Next week, my company has people flying in and giving them hotel rooms and rental cars for free. I was offered a room which I'm taking so I don't have to make such a long commute back home everyday so that's exciting. Training next week is gonna be 3-5 hours a day so the majority of my time is gonna be relaxing in my hotel room playing Elden Ring with my friends. I put my reimbursement mileage down and gave it to my boss so I should be expecting a nice check soon for that. Lunch is paid for by my employer on Monday so I get a…
As the title says. Throw away account for obvs reasons. I'm union, I get some paid bereavement days which is awesome. But state law also allows me to have up to 2 weeks of leave for bereavement. My boss asked me today when I'm coming back to work when I said I wouldn't be coming in on Tuesday as I have to assist my mom with the business side of death (which is fucked in it's own twisted way). Apparently a coworker is gone all next week on vacation and another one is supposed to be gone on Saturday and they're “counting on me being there”. Awaiting an email on Monday from our leave administration folks, but yeah. Sorry that my dad, the rock of my goddamn life, chose such an inconvenient time to die. And sorry I'm human and need to grieve.
Monday, I think I’m walking away.
Since starting in January 2021 it’s been a shit show and for 11.25/11.50 dollars an hour, it isn’t worth it. I ran a department I was transferred to against my will, I wasn’t the manager, I just killed myself trying to prove myself, shocker it wasn’t seen and I was only given a yearly “raise” of 25 cents. Add on top of that abuse from management, customers, then discrimination from coworkers and you get me, frustrated. I was also treated like a “rude” aggressor in a situation that wasn’t my fault, meanwhile the other guy played the victim and filed a complaint against me, so much for my loyalty. Fuck this place. Never again.
$2.13 / hr
Should owe them extra too
I just risked my life for 13.75 an hour
First things first. I'm under 18 and consider myself privileged for my parents to be financially stable. I by no means need a job but with college being fucking expensive even with scholarships I got a job anyway. I'm too young to be “anti work”as I do not need to work in order to live so I don't really know if this fits Now for the story: I got a job at my local waterpark last year and lucked out to work with great people. Today was opening day for said waterpark. Got there today, my lead assigned me to a slide. Everything was going smooth until I was on top of the second tallest slide tower in the park with 4 of my coworkers and we hear thunder off in the distance. We are quickly loading people into tubes while we wait to hear the whistle signaling that we…
Left a Government Job
I worked for the PX on military installations for 3 years in two different states. I encountered great management at one installation and frankly, wish we had never left there. The second one was great – for three months, until the assistant store manager moved out and the temporary replacement had something to prove – at my expense, specifically. No idea why I was her target, maybe because I made more than her favorites due to my position and company history, or maybe because I was one of three without previous knowledge of her. I don’t care. I reported it, and wasted two months of my life on dispute resolution that only resulted in retaliation from all senior management. I realized that I am too old for that crap, I don’t get paid enough to manage my managers, and I am so overqualified that I can’t really use this on…
Worthwhile jobs
Lately I’ve seen many posts of major employers that don’t pay anywhere close to a living wage. They provide no benefits or incentives and generally are a bunch of business jerks. I’m wondering if anyone here is savvy enough to put together a list of worthwhile corporations that actually help and encourage their employees to succeed. Maybe I’m an optimist. Maybe the glass is full of piss. I am not savvy enough to put this list together but maybe it could help folks.
