I'm a university student and I NEED to work full time +20 hours to sustain the school season during summer (I still work during school). I usually have no problem finding summer full-time seasonal work. Usually, start hunting in January and get an offer by may. I have been doing this since 17. This year has been particularly bad. 100s of application and door-to-door resume handouts. Not a single offer. I had plenty of interviews but none called back or rejected me. Some wanted me to leave school early to work for them. I was desperate but I found a cash job from some shady guy. It's $10/hour for 12 hours a day. The minimum wage in Ontario, Canada is $15.50. I get no protection and it is not stable. I am still looking for work but no one is hiring anymore. I am seriously thinking about dropping out altogether…
1990 ? WTF
I responded to a post on a national job website and emailed my resume and was asked to come in this morning to discuss the details of the position, which I did. Upon my arrival I was handed a 20 page job application. I DIDNT OPEN IT I just waited till one of the office people to come ask if I was done I said I was and handed back the uncompleted form, she asked whyI had not completed it I had explained I was not even remotely close to deciding if I wanted the position until I talk to the person I was corresponding with. . I was told I had to fill ot the application first . I told her under no circumstances would I fill that out . She said I guess you dont want to work and I told her not for your 1990 assed company…
I get told at my workplace that if i want to work on a Saturday I say yes and they tell me i don't have to work on Tuesday so i can come on Saturday and i still make my 40 hours….. But then my manager ends the call with…. But you still need a doctor's excuse for Tuesday and hangs up…. Why do i need a doctor's excuse for a Tuesday when it was just moved on a Saturday?
The story : I started at my job 7 months ago +- as a first line support. doing a good job, got told multiple times to keep doing this because no complaints are coming in. A new guy started 2 months ago also as a first line support i asked a couple times if i can get higher up in the ranks because i need more, first line support is boring for me. they tell me because i “just” started that it's not possible. after 1 year they have no issue with this. this new guy who always come's to me for answers get's to the position i wanted to be. the reason : i am on vacation for 2 weeks and the new guy does not take vacation so he got the position. when i asked about the 1 year experience they just answered : We dont need to…
anarchy in the workplace
These are peoples’ livelihoods and time they’re fucking with. At minimum we should get a rejection email so we’re not left out in the cold. I always try to look up a recruiter’s superior whenever I talk with one. If they ghost me, I then send an email to their superior. I don’t usually get a response, but I like to fantasize that recruiter getting their ass handed to them for ghosting me. It helps me sleep at night.
