“Hours worked” for OT calculation is BS
Just ranting.. I know this is legal but I still think it’s wrong. I called in yesterday because I’m very sick. Now my job is forcing OT that I won’t get paid OT pay for all because of that sick day. It’s just so ridiculous that I could work 13+ hours in a day and it still doesn’t count as OT and that it goes by the week and not days. My companies policy also says that if my total “extended” hours worked this week goes beyond that 8 hours of my call in time I still won’t reach OT pay. I will prob end up with 110 hours in the 2 week pay period. But I guess it’s my fault for getting sick
So I work at a paint store and there were 2 managers when I started working here. The no-nonsense, more serious and business partnership handling manager. The second being a younger, more energetic and “human”-like assistant manager who mostly handles customer interactions. I just went to a going away get-together at bar and yeah, sucks to see one of my favorite managers ever leave, that wasn't a dealbreaker to me. I was told while at that party that our store lwaderwas fired due to an medical status change (basically they couldn't lift heavier things and that's a big part of the job). They were assuming it'd be temporary the change in work load, but they fired them after it came out it'd be permanent. Which sucks because they were so nice, and honestly did more work than most of the people who CAN lift things. but still didn't make it…
OP was a troll
I made a huge career transition in 2019 which forced me to take a significant pay cut. I was freelancing before (and even though it wasn't stable, I made a pretty good living). But I wanted more stability. The employer knew this and definitely took advantage. Even though management was fairly nice, they were incredibly cheap. The 2 hour total commute was exhausting. Taking public transportation in one of the world's most crowded cities was no fun, being packed like a sardine during rush hour. I kept wishing I could work remotely, at least a few times a week. That was out of the question. It was strict 8-5 with 1 hour for lunch. When Covid hit we started working from home. I actually started working 10X harder, educating myself in the field and participating in community events. A recruiter contacted me based on some presentations I gave– a company…
I hate retail so much
Just remembered a recent experience I had at work that made me angry, so I thought I'd share. I work for an office supply chain as a front-end associate. Business is slow nowadays so any customer with a rather big transaction is doted on and pushed to get the warranty, yada yada. One day, I was moseying around at the front when I got a call on the phone – older gentleman looking for pens. I couldn't immediately guess which ones he was trying to find so I had to go on our website to see. At the same time, a line started to form at checkout and more cashiers were called over to help. My manager noticed a customer in line who seemed like they were spending quite a lot, and within five minutes he radioed me in a hushed tone telling me to hurry it up because he…
Gotta love that Geico is telling people no time off will be approved for 6 months of working there. They originally told me 90 days, then during my phone interview they told me 6 months. I told them no wonder why they can’t find anyone to work, and that I’ll pass. What the fuck is wrong with these companies? I work 2 jobs and a crazy schedule currently, and they think I’ll just sign away my life for 6 months after being worked to the bone by retail and food service? Fuck you Geico.
