Annual increase time.

Oh the joys. Management super stoked that they have a $1.5 million surplus. Surplus exists because they haven’t been able to recruit due to low wages. Existing, overworked staff offered 1% pay rise. They are sure we u sweat and that any more is simply unaffordable. Senior management team get 9% because, you know inflation, so it’s not really a rise. Plus bonuses because they saved so much money. You know, by failing to recruit. It’s not like they have any incentive not to recruit… oh wait.

Anyone else notice this similarity between bad managers and bad college professors?

Hey all, here’s something I’ve been recently thinking about and wanted to see if anyone else can relate. When I was in college, there were two types of professors. Professor #1 didn’t have particular attendance requirements or bullshit assignments to make sure you’re in class that day. You went to their class because you to needed in order to pass, and more often than not they were intellectually stimulating and treated you with respect. I had plenty of Professor #1s that I looked forward to their class every week with anticipation. On the other hand, professor #2 had stupid attendance rules on their syllabus such as “if you miss more than two classes in a semester I’ll drop you down a letter grade.” All the professor #2s I had were shitty teachers who were unable to use up a class time in a productive way so they had to resort…

Going to college for a worthless degree…

So I was recently accepted into the university of Minnesota twin cities. Boy was I excited. I applied for a business administration degree, but instead, they threw me in a whole different branch of the college, and gave me a two thousand dollar scholarship. (Presidents emerging scholars) Now hear me out, two thousand dollars is nice, but it comes with downsides. I am now apart of a program that targets low income individuals, (TRIO) saying that they help us in our college journey. The incentives they provide (that I know of) are basic career support, which is already provided, and the chance to be apart of a diverse community. There might be a few more things. Anyways, this program requires you to take a certain course, which means you are basically paying for that scholarship yourself. How do I even know they are going to help me in any way…

My Boss Makes Everything About My Weight

Just as the title says. I don't work in the USA as a start. I tend to have quite a bit of health issues mostly revolving around stomach issues and vision issues. I can't eat many foods without getting an upset stomach and after an accident I lost some of my vision. The issue is that whenever I talk about it because of needing days for appointments, he always consults his wife who basically works in a lab studying viruses. She's not a primary care doctor or an eye doctor. Except she acts like she knows everything and immediately made an assumption that my health issues were due to an unhealthy lifestyle. I don't eat fast food. After working in it I stopped eating it but she assumes I do despite never seeing me eat. Meanwhile my boss has seen my eating habits due to a business trip and so…

Starting an Ethical Buisiness… Help!

I and my partner are starting a plastic recycling business based on the Precious Plastic platform within the next month. We are hoping to start hiring employees in 1.5 years. I have been browsing this subreddit for ideas on how to ethically run the business and treat employees. We looked up online that minimum wage should be between $15-22/hr, which we will aim for, but are afraid that might cause problems since the starting wage around here seems to be $10-12/hr. I would like to see what a buisiness built on this communities ideas would look like. Please give us ideas, advice, and any comments you can think of! I know this isn't a traditional post for this sub, but you are the best community to come to about this. Thank you!

Understaffed and Anxious

Hi everyone! So I currently work a pretty aggressive sales job, which I actually don’t mind that much(obv would rather not work tho), except for the fact we are short staffed. We have 2 full timers (my boss and I) and 2 part timers and one of them is leaving soon but my boss has no idea. My boss already works four or five 10hr shifts a week and that means I’d be the next one to pick up the slack… I really don’t want to be put in that position as I’m already getting burnt out. So should I warn my boss and hope that he will hire some more people or should I suck it up and pray my coworker puts in 2 weeks instead of just leaving? I’m freaking out inside about it.

I feel like walking away from this job

I’ve worked at this company for five years, as a contract employee. Which means I report to a supervisor on site but get paid by the contract agency. Anyway, I’m tired of making what I am paid, which is $20 an hour. To sit and do detailed cad drawings of machinery all day. Easy job, right. I’m 46 years old. This is my 23rd year doing this type of work. I have two nearly teen daughters. I have an array of health problems. I know if I ask for a raise, the answer will be No. I know if I asked to be hired outright by the client company, the answer will be No. Quite frankly, I don’t want to be hired by this company, the employee rule book is ridiculous and their HR woman is a psycho bitch. I like the people in my department and the work isn’t…
