My wife and I both put in 40 hours a week, I make 20 dollars an hour she makes 22..I'm 41 and she's 40, we have no savings, no retirement accounts nothing..I don't own my house… She has lifelong kidney issues that she was born with so we have hundreds of thousands of medical debt..we constantly get sent to collections and get wage garnishment notifications etc etc. We can't buy a house because things that look like a fuckin shack cost 600k, I didn't play the game so to speak in that when I bought cars I bought them outright so I basically have no credit. My children are adults and they are constantly moving out and coming back because no one can live on a singular 15 dollar an hour salary. My house is basically madness.. You can just never get ahead and it frankly makes me want to…
Jeff Bezos is the most merciful god
I see the other perspective now.
I used to have a huge decently well constructed base of negative opinions of the elite, and things surrounding the elite, all combined with information to back them up, and information on how to solve these issues. I seriously cared about the state of society, I seriously wanted to help society. I saw how many of our issues are caused by many very wealthy individuals. Now my beliefs are shifting. As I've cared so much for society, I've given large efforts to improve it. In those efforts I've come to realize that the majority of the issues the American public faces are due to the public itself. Public ignorance. I've spent likely hundreds of hours spending time with people, trying to fix their ignorances. Out of hundreds or maybe thousands of people I've talked to, less than ten made any difference, less than five showed a more complete difference, and…
Is there anyone here who works in HR?
What's your work like? I'm not asking for personal information like an address or something, just seeing if the rumors about HR being horrible have any merit.
Mediocre Raise
Normally I don’t care about raises. I’m generally inclined to help my coworkers with minor programming because it makes their jobs easier. I’ve spent the last year working very hard to ensure my department is efficient, as well as taking on the additional projects. My raise this year was pathetic. So much so, I’ve decided to stop all work I had been doing outside of my job description. I don’t see the point in doing an extraordinary job for a meager wage. I would quit, but I need income to survive. I’m also curious to see how this all plays out. What will happen if I just start telling people “no”?
Names changed. First post. On mobile so sorry. TLDR at bottom. Info: So back in July my office hired a new doctor for 2 days a week. Each doctor has 2 dedicated assistants and is supposed to have 1 floater to do evaluations, help with room turnover, and so we can take lunch. Monday and Tuesday only 2 doctors work. Those days I float one day, Ann floats the other, and Liz floats 10-3 to cover lunches. If the schedule is packed we will all 3 float. Wednesday and Thursday (for about 6 months now) Ann has been the only floater that day between the 3 doctors as Liz and I are the new doctors main assistants. The 2 other doctors refuse to lighten their schedule. One girl even had to move her sons surgery (non emergency but still) a few months ago because multiple people were out but the…
Advice on the WFH conundrum
My workplace has integrated a hybrid working schedule where we do some days in the office and some from home. A set number of these days are mandatory in office. However, I've noticed a disturbing trend where some senior team members just flat out ignore this instead picking and choosing when they show up to the office. I had a health concern a short while ago which meant I had to take time off so I asked my manager if I could work from home and it was a right hassle getting him to agree to it. Fast forward to today and I'm the only one present in the office so I decided to go home in my lunch break. Should I feel bad?
Twitter for all its faults is one of the best platforms to organize. With Elon Musk buying twitter he can eliminate any union organizing efforts by just having any posts about unions get shit exposure. It's called a soft censorship where your account is visible and you're not violating twitter's policies but your message won't get the outreach you need. We can see both Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are trying to get ahead of the new union movement by killing the platforms we use to organize.
