I want that punishment too
Hello, At the company I work for, as long as I've been here and much before, there has always been a bit of flexibility with shift start/end times. Shift times are; 06:00 – 14:00, 14:00 – 22:00, and 22:00 – 06:00. People generally would clock in half an hour or so before shift start, and do their handover so that the other guy could leave, usually anytime between half past and 20 to the hour. As this is a 24/7 operation there is always someone to hand over to The site operations manager has just sent out an email stating that everyone MUST clock in 15minutes before the correct shift time, but not leave until the correct shift time. So basically doing 8 and a quarter hours minimum each day, instead of the 8 that we are paid for. This this enforceable and or legal? I'm in the UK by…
First off, this was a job I was at about 10 years ago. I was hired on with an industrial flooring company, and told that I would start at $15/hr and be raised to $21 after getting my CDL to help haul our equipment to jobs. I had my CDL in just under 45 days of hiring and the next check showed I was only making $16 and hour. I asked about it and was told that the higher pay rate was when the shop was union. I mentioned how the shop of 13 voted the union out 7 to 6 after you the owner promised raises to $25 an hour to everybody, and that this was all over a year before I applied for the job and was told $21 after getting my CDL, so when I hired on, and when they told me to get my…
how bout a raise instead…?
Shop and getting food?
Since I’m homeless, the past couple days I’ve been hiding in my car at the mechanic’s. Car is broken down, so mechanic letting me keep it here. Im scared to get out to get food down the road, because there’s a gas station, a major road, and a busy intersection right next door. Thankfully the mechanic is closed on the weekends, but I’m afraid passersby will notice. What should I do?
A query of protest tactics
Specifically, as it relates to destruction of property a-la “Boston tea party” event style. An example of violence used to ultimate effect with no loss of life. So why is it frowned upon today? If workers genuinely wanted to, groups could use similar tactics to send strong, absolute messages without needing to resort to hurting anyone, merely property. God knows businesses have more than enough of that to go around, especially the bigger chains. So, why not? Because such things are 'illegal'? As if the corporate shenanigans that have been going on for well over half a century now aren't. Billionaire business owners have multiple empty vacation homes they definitely don't need. Why not get together with a handful of friends with molotovs/fuel and a few dozen fire extinguishers from home depot across the country? Targeted damages with the target message that people are fed up with corporate socialism, with…
I’m starting an 8am-5pm Monday to Friday job next week. It’s accrued time so after a year of working, I will have 2 weeks of vacation time. So next April I will have accrued 2 weeks of vacation. I feel like this isn’t enough to do everything I want. My family plans to go on vacation in July. I wanted to help my sister move in to college across the country in September. I’ll only have a week accrued in October. I also have a lot of different countries I want to visit that I haven’t had the chance to due to Covid. Any ideas on what I could do?
Wish I didn’t have to work this summer
I don't regret quitting my last job. I stayed there for 2 years and it was so toxic, it aggravated my depression. But sometimes, I feel like I shouldn't have quit, because now it's so hard to find a new job. For some people, interviews are really easy and get them on the first try, but for me, it takes hundreds of applications and tens of interviews to get anything at all, and most of them are bad positions. I'm going to restart applying for jobs this summer, does anyone have any tips on how to ace an interview even tho you know the job isn't that great?
