My work placement did an “April Fools” telling everyone we will now be working 12hr shifts

HAHAHA HAHAHA SO FUNNY I'M LAUGHING SO HARD RIGHT NOW HAHAHAHA. No. Not funny, 10hr days are enough. Why do companies think they're hilarious.. When they're clearly not.

My work fired me before I started

I got hired, a uniform, filled out every form they gave me. I asked if there was anything else and they said no. I warned them ahead of time that I live in an area without service atm. I went into town every second day to get service and I find out apparently there's 5 emails worth of shit that I had to do on a separate app that they sent on Friday at 4:45pm. That entire weekend I flooded and had no service or contact with the outside world. On Tuesday I was sent an email saying they've terminated my employment before I even started because I 'didn't have a sufficient amount of contact with them. I warned them, tried my best to get a job because I'm ridiculously desperate and despite them and I quote “needing about 70 people to function at full capacity but being short 30…

Accidentally Discovered the CTC of every employee in my company

I'm trying to switch jobs, and one of the companies that I'd applied to wanted salary and other benefits-related information before proceeding with the interviews. So I started digging through the paperwork and policy documents my current company had uploaded on our HR portal. In the personal accidents insurance section, as per policy, everyone is entitled to a coverage of twice their fixed annual ctc. Here's where things get interesting. On the portal, the company had uploaded a list of all employees and how much coverage each was entitled to. (I work in a big company in terms of net worth but total number of employees is less than 150.) Simple maths, and now I know what all my colleagues, including my boss and other c-suite executives are earning. I also now know who all, doing similar work to me are being paid more (or less). Even if my calculation…

I sat in a meeting where management spent 15 mins explaining why they won’t fix a toilet door.

I work in customer service. Yesterday, I was back at the office for a stupid, unnecessary 3 hour meeting that could’ve easily been an email. Among them were announcements. Someone asked for feedback regarding the premises and a colleague of mine mentioned that they got stuck in the toilet. They were trapped in the toilet for a fairly long time last week and no one came to get them. They had to ask for help. Other colleagues chimed in the same thing, saying that they also had gotten stuck in the same toilet. All management said was that the toilet was usable, and then flashed a power point slideshow on how to use the toilet. It’s so ridiculous. The door’s lock was clearly spoilt and all they had to do was to replace it. I don’t understand why they thought it was a better idea to make slides on how…

Son was promised a raise, months later he found out they never gave it to him.

My son (18) worked at a fast food restaurant and was one of the better workers. He busted his butt to learn all the positions so he could fill in for anything, so much so that he taught the managers how to do things. Anyway last fall he caught wind of another place hiring for $3/hr more that what he was making. So he told them he was giving his two week notice unless they could match it. His shift manager asked the area manager if he could match it and she gave the approval. Fast forward to about a week and a half ago and he finds out that they never gave him the promised raise. He kept his composure and ask if they would honor that agreement and pay him the back pay and they said no. So he immediately gave his two week notice. At this point…

I’ve been told to “smile more”

As you know, people perceived by others as women are often expected to put on a theatre at work with overbearing attitude. I would like to understand whether it is a way of bullying, because if it is I won't tolerate it. I have just recently started a role in which I'm facing clients and I've been told by a supervisor/manager that I'm not smiling enough. As it is I'm already faking smiling a lot and it seems what is expected of me is to be annoying and out of touch by coming at clients with a stupidly cheerful attitude. Any advice?
