Monday morning of my final weeks at the company they selected me for a random drug-screen. I was a financial analyst at the company, and they have drug tested me FIVE times in the 2-years of employment. These requests are always sent on Monday mornings, on a regular “randomized” schedule. I'm employed in a state that has legalized cannabis use. And, I frequently smoke. I've managed to pass every test before this with synthetic urine that I've bought online. Otherwise, had I tested positive using my own pee I would have been canned from this job already. Fortunately, I've been able to receive multiple job offers with better pay in my city. I'm not the only stoner at this company. I learned the fake urine trick from someone on the inside. This company is diligently running with an old policy that their family ownership won't change. I should have known…
I was told come in work sick or ur fired
My current workplace told me their too many ppl off sick and if I don’t come in , I’ll likely be fired , So I went in (mind you it’s a warehouse that requires heavy lifting ) and left after an hour because I was physically unable to work anymore . Are they even allowed , it’s an agency.
Let me preface this by saying I am self employed and function basically as an independent contractor. I won’t specify my line of work but it involves lot of training as well as equipment/expenses. My government (Canadian) has a program where if you are a certain status (low income, disability etc) they provide insurance. However, the payout is MUCH less, sometimes 70% less, and I am FORCED to take this insurance as it is illegal to not take it. For example, if a regular out of pocket fee is 400 dollars, government insurance only pays me 100 and I cannot request for additional pay/copay. I also cannot refuse these clients. After all the expenses paid, I make less than minimum wage, if any money at all! I did 4 of these $400 job today and usually my overhead expense is 70% which means I should have been paid $480.. but…
When to turn in a resignation letter?
Per title. I work in California for a dental lab at the time of for about a year now. This is my first job in dental production, straight out of college as I did not have any dental background (bachelors degree but not in STEM). However, I got a job offer with a (ok) raise at another lab and decided that this new place fits my work and learning ethics more. I accepted their (the new lab’s) offer and will be working there officially in a week. Thus on Monday, for a last consideration, I had a talk with the manager about career advancement because I have found interest in this industry and want to pursue it and make it my career, but thru the talk I could see that the way this company works doesn’t really support the way I want to learn. It’s very rigid, you do one…
So I've been contacted by a recruiter for a more senior position to what I currently do. I work in IT, 1st line and the position is 2nd line. One thing I've found is that almost no company are willing to train you and want you to have pre-existing skills/qualifications. I would really like this job but am worried I'll get ghosted as soon as I mention that I have no experience in 2nd line. Rather than lie, should I embellish the truth or is it likely I'd get found out even if I did get the job?
Why don’t more Americans move?
This is a very US-centric subreddit, for very understandable reasons both in terms of the nationality of the majority of posters and in terms of the glaring issues in the US labour system. What I’d like to ask, as a Brit, is how easy is it to try somewhere else as an American? There’s no restrictions on moving to another state to live and work right? Do people do that commonly to look for fairer opportunities? If not why not? Which states have fairer employment laws? Also, why don’t more people emigrate? American education is generally well respected abroad and there must be countries where Americans could get a fairer deal? And a brain drain would be a huge problem for American employers and would serve as an opportunity for self-correction. What are the barriers for an American wanting to emigrate?
