I am a french expat in India. As such I am part of a group that exchange useful tips and informations. Yesterday , someone posted a job offer on the group. For a junior position. Asking for 5 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. I automaticaly reply, saying that asking for a junior position with 5 years experience is not asking for a junior. The person tried to scold me and to make me shut up. Telling me that it was to filter people with too much expectations. That I don't know anything about recruitment and that she was refusing to debate any futher (I probably pissed him off) I answer back, saying that basically it is to filter the non-naiv people and that they are expecting a intermediate/senior position but have the budget for a junior. Therefore I am just denunciating a crappy practice and that anyway job offer don't have their…
Work smarter, not harder
This is a story from my call center times – we used to answer customer e-mails and had a quota of 40 e-mails we had to answer in our 8 hour shift. Regardless of how complicated or easy those e-mails were. Not only did we have to answer the e-mail, we also had to document everything in a hideously complicated and slow system that was not really designed for it. So you would get an e-mail, attach that e-mail to an existing customer, or create a new customer in the data base so you could attach the e-mail. Then you would answer his e-mail and also attach that e-mail to the existing account, and also document separately what you had done. Sometimes people would get some spam mails. The same applied, but you did not have to answer them, so that made things easier. People would actually fight over spam…

My employer shorted me on 2 paychecks
Hi everyone. Last week on Tuesday I noticed that my paycheck was shorted 4 hours. That was supposed to be a 40 hour check. They told me they would get it sorted but when the paycheck landed in my bank account on Thursday morning it was still short. I spoke to my head supervisor and he sent in the correction that day. I figured they would just put it on the next check but that was not the case. Now this next paycheck that is coming on Thursday was short 7.5 hours. I am now passed pissed off. How long does my employer have fix this before I can file something with the DOL in my state? (Idaho) Also thinking about threating to quit if this isn't fixed by Thursday. What would you guys do if you were in my shoes?
Wife’s wit at work
My wife was getting a but of pressure from management about the team she manages i.e. various tasks not being done. Certain standards not. Being upheld etc. Despite management acknowledging staff and her working like mad, chronic understaffed, changing goalposts etc. Her response, brilliant in its simplicity and changed the focus of accountability was: “Look around, do you see one single thing in this place that can be fixed by people simply working harder?” Tge answer was a resounding silence.
Crying at Work
I work in a psychiatric hospital that has suffered from lack of staff, low morale, and increasing pressure for little pay. I just realized that crying among staff has become so common place that it’s no longer acknowledged. We just cry – at our desks, in the hallways, in our cars and bathrooms. It’s not getting better.
