no moonlighting (or personal conduct that can effect your work) but no raise

I just recently learned about this sub and I look forward to learning! I've heard people say they are learning here! So my job pays crap. I knew that when I took the job but I needed something. I had rage quit the most toxic job I've ever had (but it also had okay pay and amazing benefits). I had been without a job for 2 months and even though I was applying non stop I couldn't get a job. So when a company finally gave me an offer, I took it. They warned me up front that the pay was lower than I tend to get and that I'm way over qualified but I'd likely advance fast and get a raise. I warned them I was only going to do the level of work for my pay and not going to be an overachiever. They agreed. So I felt…

Only worked there for a year

Started working at a gas station last March and it feels like I’ve been there forever. By May I worked 8 hour evening shifts by myself with no breaks. On several occasions I would have to stay a half hour late because the only overnight guy was an alcoholic who had to walk to work and on the nights he slept passed his alarm I stayed 1:30 after I was supposed to leave. He was eventually fired for passing out drunk while working so I hoped that would be the end of staying past I’m due to leave…didn’t. New overnighted was nice enough but by then our store lost most of its veteran staff, all assistant managers, and even it’s manager. We only had 5 people working there over the summer. As time went on the overnighter’s life kinda went nuts and they would often come late or not call…

Please. Please. Just fire me already…

Does anyone else here fantasize about getting fired? I am not having the greatest day today and have screwed up one or two very minor things and tend to over-analyze things (probably not helping, I know). This led me to start fantasizing about my boss just firing me. I truly believe I want to leave this place (I work for a local County Circuit Court) however, I cannot just walk out as I have a wife and 2 little ones who depend on me. Not trying to complain, I'm just curious if anyone else has these same thoughts. (PS: this is not the first time I have fantasized about this) Thanks!

Tell me you didn’t bother really reading the resume without telling me you didn’t really bother reading the resume

Got a rejection letter, which I am actually happy they sent, its a rare thing to see these days most places just leave you hanging. That being said, the points in the letter make it clear they didn't really look past my last job. Reasons for rejection: #1. No experience in industrial or construction safety… Sure if you ignore the combined 10 years I spent as a EHS manager for a local construction firm and paper mill. #2. No degree or certifications in safety…. While I agree that my TappiSafe certifications are silly, I also have a degree in EHS, as well as several safety certifications starting with the OSHA 30 program and going into various certificates from various safety programs like ASSP and BCSP. #3 I do not live in their area. I assume he looked at the address of my current employer here and just assumed that is…

I wanted to thank this subreddit for making me more thoughtful about all of the ways I subconsciously perpetuate a lot of the bullshit messaging that capitalism drives. For instance, how closely my identity is tied to what I do to make money…

Reading this subreddit has been eye-opening. I am making a conscious effort to longer link my own value and identity to my job. I have also decided that I will no longer ask people what they “do” when at a party or other social situation. Instead, I'll ask them about their interests. It's weird how much effort it takes sometimes to remind myself to do that, but the resulting conversations are almost ALWAYS more rewarding. I'm slowly getting more comfortable with sharing salary information. I've donated to some union stuff and I'm looking for more ways to cause good trouble. It's a slow process, but it's been fascinating because sometimes it really feels like deprogramming myself. I'm curious if anyone else has changed how they approach the world in general to be less capitalist-focused and more inclusive of your fellow human beings? Any other suggestions?

Federal Student Loan Debt Pause Extends to 8/31/2022

“BREAKING: President Biden officially extends the federal student loan payment pause until August 31 saying, “we are still recovering from the pandemic and the unprecedented economic disruption it caused.” Here is a link to the article talking about this: https://www.npr.org/2022/04/06/1091018301/student-loan-pause-extended Hopefully, this may lead to some type of forgiviness program.

I just quit a “worker cooperative” run restaurant and it was way worse than any corporation I’ve ever worked for.

(This isn't to say corporations are good, just that even when you try to go the other way it just turns into the same shit if you don't do the work.) I started working for a worker cooperative restaurant as a “probationary owner” last September. It started at minimum wage and I was told I could buy in for $5000 if I liked it after 6 months. I would get a $3 raise when I bought in. They treat “probationary” owners as full owners and really empowered us to feel that way. We could “make any opportunity” for ourselves and “everyone can do everything.” They really wanted us to know that we were all equals… (except for our wages.) Basically we were expected to answer our phones at all hours, be barraged with constant emails and texts. There are unpaid monthly staff meetings that can be as long as 4…
