I'm a member of Seafarers International Union who's never been active and I'm pissed off. New 3-year union contract with my employer came out: 7% raise over three years. 3%, 2%, 2%. Inflation was eight percent just this year. We got a pay cut. It's a joke. And this is in an environment where companies are BEGGING to hire sailors. If ever there was a time to squeeze the man for all he's worth it's now. But I think the union is too old and complacent and mobbed up to do anything and it's basically a wing of management at this point. I've never done any kind of organizing before, but I at least want to get a bunch of us sailors together to send a message to SIU that we're pissed and they need to shape up. Where on earth do I start? Thanks.
(sorry for bad spelling thru this whole story lol)before i start i wanna say that i can't go over every detail but im about to graduate in 2 months and be done with school forever i have autism i got tested for it and i am asian just barely white little brown mix skin colour and my country does not like black or asian people there is alot of corruption here. long story short for some reason my teachers and these people that work for the goverment atleast that's what im guessing want to help me find a job and as good that sounds its not what you would think it is it's a trap for teenagers or immigrants to accept these crappy low paying jobs to get taken advantage of so i said the obvious thing i said i don't need you guys i don't care about you guys…
i just ordered pizza hut and they are reccomending i tip to “avoid unnecessary contact” whatever that means. whats the strategy here? from what i understand the cook crew has to be paid at least minimum wage. its a awful but i always thought tipping was for servers and drivers that they can legally pay almost nothing. are they tricking me into paying their workers a fair wage for them? and i don't quite trust anything going through debit. how can i be sure corporate isn't just pocketing money i want to give to their underpaid employees? edit: the tip reccomendation comes from ordering online. no employee directly obliged me to tip.
Opinions on my situation
Hey, just thought i'd share my situation. I'm a new hire and my probation is still in effect, I asked if I could take a personal day 24 hours in advance to go to the passport office and get my passport. The manager said she would deny the request and if I didn't show up it would be a no call no show. Now no call no show would be a lie since notification was given. Would this just be a improper call out ? What can I do in this situation the passport was very urgent business for me.
I got Fired for requesting time off
Alright, I will admit, it's not entirely the title, yes I'm a bit clickbaity I apologize I'm just very frustrated. So I've been working part time at a Lighthouse that's been converted into a museum in my area, I've been getting sick a lot lately and haven't been the most reliable worker, but whenever I'm there I'm good, I'm never on my phone, I'm attentive to all of the guests, I'm on top of getting stuff done like cleaning and restocking. I was scheduled to work on Memorial Day weekend, which is a very busy time for them. My family is planning to have as many people as they can come visit my great aunt who is very ill that weekend. So I texted him, and with my previous attendence issues in mind, asked if I could take those days off but making it clear I was perfectly willing to…
