Taxes on your paycheck are brutal.

They take so much money out of your paycheck for taxes. Also this 40% ish tax on bonuses and incentives is straight bull shit.

The more things change

I believe in the saying the more things change the more they stay the same. I truly feel at my restaurant job no one has any idea what their doing. Their on us about labor. I’ve already pointed out getting labor under control is impossible. When my GM showed up a couple former employees came back. Now their recent behavior shows a couple months later they’ll probably be leaving again just like last time. Funny thing is they tried to get me to call in to work at the job I like so I can at this dumpster fire of a store. Yeah I’ll pass. I thought when my new GM showed up & she’d try to play by corporates rules things would be different. Oh boy was I wrong. It’s no different & I see another repeat of the my former GM within 6 months.

What should I do with annoying customer when I have to attend my grandfather funeral?

Like I said in the topic. My grandfather passed away last night (Friday) because of COVID. Due to, the city health care. We have to make a funeral as quick as possible. So, here we are Saturday morning. But suddenly, my egoistic customer just called in the middle of funeral and ask me to do some work. It was my fail that I picked up the phone. But Saturday morning seriously!!!

Could I just take a high paying remote job and do nothing? Have any of y’all done that?

I currently work in tech consulting, mostly remote (I go into the office about once a week but it’s not required). I was offered this job in summer of 2020, when it was a miracle to even get a job offer right out of college. I LOVE my company culture/people, it’s a relaxed environment, but the work is eh, and so is the pay. I’ve always known I wouldn’t be passionate about any job or career, so if I’ll feel this way about any position I take, why not go for a higher paying remote job? I know that I’m not making as much as I should be for someone at my level in comparable firms. In a pre-Covid-labor-shortage world this wouldn’t bother me. But it does. My best friend works in big 4 consulting and told me it’s virtually impossible to get fired there & at other companies of…

Potential grounds for labor trafficking case

I have been working in a company for several years. Was hired by a family member. Didn’t really know anything about my job. I was always shouted at by the boss for standing around, and I really didn’t know better at the time. I was shouted at again for using my phone but I only did that because I saw everyone else was. They didn’t get yelled at. Then I got yelled at again for talking to a co worker when my boss walked in. Straight up said to me: “you piss me off.” Everyone else talks to each other and never got yelled at. While these things are happening my relative who hired me on was telling me how hard work will make me successful and respected. Told me overtime is good. Every time I thought about leaving, this relative of mine told me I was betraying the company,…

[Rant] Antiwork sentiment as an immigrant

I've hauled ass in the United States for 7 years as a nonresident from Pakistan that initially came here on a student visa, and I have to say, the entire process has been so damn dehumanizing. They add so many extra hurdles for us to even find work, over residents of the country. But even after successfully jumping through those hoops, the only reward you get is to become just as overworked as any resident working that job too, but with usually even less pay (since we're never in a position to negotiate, considering our immigrant status), and just rot away as a cog in the machine (and I say this as someone who managed to land one of the better jobs too when it comes to workload). All the while, I'm paying taxes to fund the war machine of a country that's actively played a part in destabilizing the…
