I've been on over time on and off for almost a year now. So instead of working 6:30-3 we are working 6:30-5. A couple of months into the over time people were complaining that they had to use vacation time just to be able to make it to places that closed at 5 so they said we can do normal shifts on Fridays. (Over 50 people signed a petition for this to happen) Mon-thurs as soon as 3 o'clock hits my brain goes in panic mode. I'm so sick and tired of the over time and during those 2 extra hours tacked onto my day I'm shaking and my mind is going a mile a minute because I would rather be anywhere than at work. After just half a year at my first “real” job I've decieded to move on. To add a little context I'm a recent IT graduate from the UK living in an area that doesn't really have any IT jobs. It's fair to say that when this job came to my attention I was excited, the money was great for a person of my age and the experience they were offering sounded too good to be true. As you might have guessed, it was. I was willing to look past the odd shift lengths and anti-social rota because I figured this would be temporary, a stepping stone of sorts. A year maybe two tops. During the interviews and run-up to starting they were assuring me I would recieve all sorts of training and telling me how easy it is to progress in the company. All lies of course as I discovered…

Obligatory happened a few months ago It was a warehouse job. I was a flex employee which meant I could pick up as many hours as I wanted but minimum was 8 a week. Supposedly they paid incentives which is how they real you in. “You could make up to $xx”. My friend and I were almost certain it wasimpossible to achieve. The trainers would tell you otherwise and would constantly brag about how easy it was. Your % at the end of the day reflected how fast they wanted you to work. 100% meant achieving quota, 50% meant there was a lot of room to improve. The incentives all revolved around you hitting 100%+ for multiple weeks straight. I learned the average was around 60% which meant you had to work almost double what the average person did to even hit the first incentive. I guess that's what kept…

So I gave my two weeks (I know, I know, I should’ve just quit on the spot, but honestly I was afraid of backlash even if it doesn’t matter), and my boss is still expecting me to attend these useless meetings about projects for the next few months despite the fact that I’ll be gone. I literally have 2 days left here and my boss is mad I don’t want to be in a meeting about a new partnership the company is starting after I leave. She was like “this is part of your job description” as if I’m not going to be gone this time next week or even contribute to the meeting at all. Anyway, reaffirming that giving your 2 weeks is bullshit.

So here's the story. I have been stupidly engaging in political discourse with my boss (owner of the company) a few weeks ago he drops in this line “i don't care if they're pedophiles” unprovoked. It was out of place in our discussion, so i ignored it and moved on. Now the other day he says he doesnt thing people should be prosecuted if they have “just a little bit” of child porn. He says you might accidentally download some. This again was strangely out of context for the topic. I am wildly disturbed by this. Wildly. I have a good job and I make the most I have in my life (15$/hour). I could make the same at walmart probably. I also play D&D with the dude's son who also runs the restaurant i work at.
