Major investors are saying the stock market will implode by 50-80% very soon. Which could cause decades of turmoil and an even worse Great Depression. I was too young to really remember that 2008 crisis. What will happen to normal working class Americans? Will we go full mad max?
My nephew that lives with me applied for this job near our house at this bubble tea place and they offered him 13/hr on the books to work 7 days a week M-S from 12 pm – 11 pm. They wanted him to work 77 freaking hours for 13 dollars an hour. Such terrible pay for no work life balance. I wouldn’t let him do it needless to say.
Hey y'all! I'm a longtime lurker on this subreddit, and with the news about Roe V. Wade yesterday, I was spurred to take action. However, I can't seem to find a solid answer online as to whether undergraduate student workers (in Illinois, specifically) can unionize. Everyone I have spoken to that has worked as an undergraduate has attested to the ridiculous demands of their bosses, as well as blatant law-breaking in terms of withholding pay, asking students to work more than they are allowed to per university rules, and even blatant discrimination based on gender/disability status/etc. I'm tired of being pushed around. It's time to burn it all down. Thanks so much for y'all's time! Blessed be!
Sorry if it comes off as cocky or conceited but in the current market we’re in, I feel annoyed at recruiters that cold call or message you on LI with the downgrade jobs. If you found my profile and see my work history, what makes you think I’d leave my current role for a job that pays the same or less? Lately I’ve just been telling them the job they’re offering pays less and is at a lower level than my current job. Any tips for better responses or getting better offers? I’m open to a new job but I need it to be a better salary/level than where I’m currently at, especially if we’re in this workers’ market were in.
Mother’s Day Strike
I recently accepted an offer at a large hospital after six rounds of interviews. I'm a data scientist and my work would involve doing data wrangling and statistics on their medical data. I'm working 100% remotely, and they knew that I was concurrently wrapping up an existing position and were okay with this from the jump. A couple of days before I started this new job, I realized that they had never sent me a company laptop. It honestly had never occurred to me that they might not send one – every data scientist I know has received a company computer for their job, especially if they're working with secure data. Moreover, they had never mentioned it in the job description, interview rounds, or offer letter that I would need to use my own machine. So I reached out to my new supervisor and asked for a laptop. He said…
Living Wage Calculator from MIT
Living wage calculator from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Here you can view by state/county what kind of wage it takes to meet basic living expenses across the entire country. There are estimates for most living situations, such as: single person living alone, single parent with 1 or more children, two adults with no kids, etc, etc. Use this to determine what you NEED to be making at a minimum just to to live based on your situation. Also please use it to slap down anyone who says that wages are too high already. ed: This site does seem to be maintained and updated regularly, though I can't say precisely how often, but I have been using it for over 10 years.
