I work at a “small” dog boutique that specializes in overpriced dog treats ($6 per cookie) and overpricing merchandise they get off of Amazon by almost double. Most of the employees including myself are college aged, and not only do they give us minimal hours (I get 8, I was hired in for 15-20) but were forced to work alone with no breaks. The Owner sits on her computer from home all day and nitpicks everything we do. Check your phone? She knows. Turn the lights off/close the gate a minute early? She knows. Stand behind the desk too long? She knows. I was recently told off for “kneeling” since the counter reaches about halfway up my thigh and when Im doing tasks it’s easier for me to be in more of a lunge position so I don’t hurt my back. They expect us to do tasks even when everything’s…
What do I do? The job offer is contingent on three references. I have the experience just not anybody that can really vouch for me.
Food service job
I have a fair amount of experience working in food service/restaurant industry and have two certifications in relation to that field. I also live on my own in a rather expensive city. I’m looking into applying for this cafe job but it says they’re hiring at $16 an hour. Though according to the job listing when tips are factored in, it’s closer to around $24-26 an hour. Would it be fair to ask for $20-25 an hour considering I have experience and certifications, plus the cost of living? I don’t understand how jobs here can offer less than $20 since it’s expensive to live here.
Hi, legit question. I don't debate the people who would oppose this sub because it gives me a headache. Anyway, has anyone told them that they have to subsidize the poor when companies pay shit wages? How does that normally go?
I’m at Jimmy Johns and nobody is here
I’m in IT. In the entire IT department there’s 16. That includes business analysts, developers, and what I do “help desk extroidinair”. Here’s the thing. There are only two other’s like me. If we collectively decided to quit, the business would be at an absolute standstill. Nothing would get done. Period. We are support for the entire company. The CFO’s keyboard stopped working? I guess the sys admin who’s trying to troubleshoot the phone system so that we’re in compliance about call recording since we’ve picked up Medicare is going to have to stop doing that and drive across town to deliver a keyboard and mouse. You could rehire for that. Simple. But when several people’s VPN isn’t working bc they weren’t diligent about changing their password and you have to walk them through the steps of somehow getting connected to the VPN so their at home computer is connected…
I had to give up my dog today
I live with my mom and her boyfriend. My mom works full time (I'm talking leaving the house at six coming home at seven or eight), I work after school, and her boyfriend works from home. Groceries have been so fucking expensive lately and honestly everything else has too. We just couldn't afford to feed her anymore. She was a year old German shepherd and we had to drop her off at the pound today after school. I've had her since she was three months old and we were super bonded. I've been crying for hours. I know this has been super traumatic for her and honestly it has been for me too. I just hope wherever she is she's okay. We were having trouble paying the bills despite all working so fucking much and I just don't know how I can live in this country anymore. Things just keep…
