I joined this place 2 months back and put in my papers last week. I told them I am still on probation and it does not make sense if I serve the full notice period. They didn't agree and they are making an employee with actually no liability serve a 75 days notice period. I think of this as a paid leave as my new employer is fine with it.
Debating on what I should do. I worked at a hospital for almost 2 years on 3rd shift. We were short staffed, shocking I know. As such I was scheduled in a way that I was unable to take a lunch. While I was encouraged to take one, there was no backup for my position. There was no one who could do what I do. Working in a trauma hospital, there isn't exactly a break in work. That's fine. I have worked in healthcare for almost a decade and it is one of the things that I have come to expect. However, I didn't expect to still have 30 minutes auto deducted from my check for lunch. as the title says, my boss has been accused of favoritism of other people that are the same ethnicity (promoted a not so great consultant to a 140K annual paid employee, now that person is making more than his boss [not the boss in question] and his boss didnt even want to promote him but he had to since She [boss in question] wanted him to get the raise) and also there are accusations of retaliatory behavior. Most of this is certainly true. When a previous employee fought for a raise, she deemed that person a “Trouble Maker” and she goes out of her way to give that person a terrible review each year. I have been working the same job for almost 2 years now. 1 hour commute each way, not too bad since it paid well (engineer) and I just graduated college. Gas was $1.90 when I started. Flash forward to now with all the shit going on in the economy. Gas is over $5, 13% of my take home pay every week goes to gas alone. The 2 hours of driving a day is getting to me mentally. I've been working in the financial sales industry for four years now. I've worked for three different companies. At first, I thought it was me. Then I started realizing it was the industry. It's all the same at each company. It's not about helping people who need it. It's about getting a large account balance. I work 40 plus hours a week. I try my best to help everyone, regardless of account balance. Management wants us to work more hours because sales are down because no one wants to invest right now. I work at a major grocery chain as a florist. Everyone wants me to “get a real job” but guess what? I worked as a mental health case manager and that was incredibly taxing on me, especially because I myself am mentally ill and was making less there than I am here at a grocery store. Anyway, lately I've had to work a lot of overtime because I'm one of two people in the department and we are the only florists in a rich part of town. And the produce department is down people so they pull us to help a lot. This is giving me major stress and anxiety. I spoke to this guy once this morning, sent over all my info immediately as well as reference contact info. But he won't stop phoning and texting and pestering me to get him numbers to speak to someone RIGHT AWAY for a reference because both didn't answer him right away. Thankfully one of the references has responded shortly after (he called her 3 times and emailed her 5, like jesus dude) but the only contact info I have for the other is a generic HR email (no number for some stupid reason) because everyone I knew that worked at that establishment that I had contact info for has moved on, but I have nothing else and I am unfortunately desperate for this job. Just heard the doctor I work for say that “we need to be charging the max amount of money insurance will allow us.” He said that by not charging the max, we are losing at least a grand or so through the year. The system we use will give us prices based on insurance but whatever.
