To explain some context, In my country we have this shitty workhours in almost every restaurants: 12:30pm – 5pm ( workers come in at 12:30 then closes at 5pm afternoon) 7:30pm – 12am ( reopens at 7:30pm and we close at 12am) The kitchen staff leaves at 4:45 pm, waiting staff stays till 5pm (rarely happens as customers takes time and will not leave until told to). The owners' pet(call him boss) is the kitchen manager, he is the “right hand” of the owner. His wife also works at the bar. Both clean the restaurant at night as they are paid to do so. Now the problem began when a couple walked in at 4:15 pm, we warned them that the kitchen closes at 4:30 and we close at 5pm in which they said “sure no problem”. They ordered fast and all their food were served at 4:25 pm. 4:50…

So this was years ago but suffice to say, the industry I was interviewing for was one of those “it's entry-level but you need a buttload of paid experience first” kinds of things, but it was the only thing I had any experience at all in, even if it was minimal at best. I go into an interview and I can tell the guy conducting it was smirking and cringing at my answers (I'm a bit awkward but nothing too crazy). A few days later I get a call back from him saying he rejected me, but the reasons were some of the dumbest things I've heard. His first excuse was “your answers all sounded like they came out of a book about what to say during job interviews.” Um…yeah? What was I supposed to do? Go in cold with no preparation at all? I am not sure if this is the right sub but I would like to hear your thoughts if that's okay? I am feeling a lot of dread possibly because I subconsciously hyperfocus on the negative – I don't know and need some advice. I am at uni and joined a club that made my role seem simple and reassured me there will be no work during exam season. Well it was not. Job went remote due to COVID and I no longer needed to travel 1.5 hours a day BOTH WAYS. My life went from horrible to amazing and my health drastically improved for not having to sit in a fucking car for 3-4 hours a day. They closed half the offices making us think we were WFH permanent but now they are consolidating to the “home office” which is down the street from all the alphabet owners, 2.5 hours away and starting to ask people to come in. That being said, in getting my shit together. Can anyone recommend a resume updater? Or a recruiter? Are recruiters field specific? Things to look out for? I'm seriously pissed because this is a union job with great benefits but moving is not an option.
