What do?

I discovered this subreddit today…May Day….coincidence?……Probably. Anyway, I’m a 41 year old female that has been part of this movement for my entire life. I’m so antiwork it’s likely (it is) pathological. Recently, I broke a bone in my hand and I’m out on short term disability. My break is healing but now I’m considering what other bones I could break so that I can extend my time away. And my job really isn’t THAT bad. I do have RA, tumid lupus, and many mental health diagnosis, so I think I could qualify for disability after a fight. I just have a negative stigma in my head, but work is SO HARD for me. What do? Am shit? Feel bad. Like I’m made to feel like something’s wrong with me because I can’t manage work, physical illness, mental illness, children, spouse, house, while having perfectly applied false eyelashes. Gggrrrrrr.

(Rant) Working has destroyed me. Not even 30 yet. I am 20 and I don’t care.

This is more of a rant so I don’t really care about the response. I won’t claim to have it the worst or make the least amount. My mother is the only reason I still have a roof over my head. About 4 years ago I left high school to find better education in ICT and cyber security. Best choice of my life, I finally thought I found something I could be proud of. For context on this next part, it took me 2 years worth of about 90 different interviews and so many applications I lost count. I finally found a job through a disability employer. ( I thought that if I could get help with interviews then I’d finally get a job.) I am autistic with enough intellectual problems to deal with. One company in particular finally hired me for level 2 technical support. I won’t name anyone…

Toxic positivity

Does anyone deal with a toxically positive workplace? Where the business cares little about its customers, lies, manipulates, and takes them for every penny it can. The employees are aware, yet make it a point to be “positive” and keep the workplace a pleasant environment. We say hi and bye to each other every day with a big fake smile and wave. We all know we are telling multiple lies to dozens of customers every single day. It doesn't work in my opinion. No matter how concerted of an effort team members make. There's no such thing as a positive or comfortable work environment when the company treats customers like dog water. When the customers are anxious, we are anxious because we know we are only fueling the flames with our double speak. When the customers get defensive, we are defensive because we likewise aren't being told straightforward info from…

Fed up with my office and company

So I submitted a formal complaint against my Gov't supervisor with my company. He's been treating me like sh!t since is first started three years ago. This is my third complaint against the guy. The manager at my company recently assumed the role, so I gave him the back story of my issues. He says he'll look into it and get back to me. Next day he calls me and says “I spoke with ___ and he said that you aren't pulling your weight over there. He's done a lot of favors for you but you never want to do any favors for him…” Are you F'ing serious!? I told him I even have signed statements from my coworkers supporting my grievances. I'm so furious, I almost quit right then! Just waiting on some call backs from my interviews. Then I'm gonna gtfo as soon as I can. Any advice…

What an absolutely shitty way to find out we no longer have a job. Had to go in at 9pm to collect our belongings because they’re changing the locks tomorrow.

An Argument That Misses the Point

So the main argument I see against a living wage is “If you get paid more, they'll just charge more.” The response is often “They're already charging more.” I don't disagree, but the bigger issue is that we're focusing on the value of money, rather than the value of the goods and services we'll get for the money. Companies will always find a way to make more money, and will use any excuse to do it. If the minimum hourly wage is “monthly cost of living in the area / 128” this wouldn't matter. If we link pay to cost of living “If you get paid more, they'll just charge more.” would hopefully turn into “If you get paid more, they'll just charge more. Which will require them to pay more until they figure out that pushing their 'losses' onto customers is a bad idea.”

Ain’t no way

I’m not gonna get into the “God didn’t put us on this earth to work” shit but bro this shouldn’t be this stressful right?? I’m 25 years old now but when I was 18 & I got my first job I was happy as hell & excited because I seen all things you can get when having a job (house, car, etc). I had no idea about minimum wage, salary, or just anything. I thought you worked, and at that end of the week you got payed & that was enough to buy the things you want. My young dumb self thought the only reason people were poor was because they didn’t want work.. boy was I fucking wrong lmaoo I mean you could be really good at one job maybe even the hardest worker at the company, but if the pay is shit it don’t even matter! It’s crazy…
