I've hauled ass in the United States for 7 years as a nonresident from Pakistan that initially came here on a student visa, and I have to say, the entire process has been so damn dehumanizing. They add so many extra hurdles for us to even find work, over residents of the country. But even after successfully jumping through those hoops, the only reward you get is to become just as overworked as any resident working that job too, but with usually even less pay (since we're never in a position to negotiate, considering our immigrant status), and just rot away as a cog in the machine (and I say this as someone who managed to land one of the better jobs too when it comes to workload). All the while, I'm paying taxes to fund the war machine of a country that's actively played a part in destabilizing the…
Trickle down economics don’t always work
https://youtube.com/shorts/5VT4RpTTt3Q?feature=share It’s because of people like him that capitalist insist that trickle down economics is the only way for a country to prosper…. Unfortunately times like we have currently prove otherwise… it’s more like trickle up economics…
At my wife's workplace. They have a 1-5 evaluation scale. She learned that her manager got called out for giving 4s and 5s to people when no one is “supposed” to get higher than a 3 to justify not giving higher raises. From what I gather, they do it like this to make employees think they're not doing enough so they'll do more than their job description in hopes of getting more money on the next one when in reality it will never be good enough. Meanwhile, all the people towards the top get massive raises. Something like 20k more in 3-5 years, which may not sound like much but considering the employer, it's huge. My last job had a system like this. I argued on a category and my “negatives” were that I didn't always take a break (due to the workload and schedule, if I didn't stay to…
I’m sick and tired of seeing/hearing things like “join our team” or “our team at _____” or “our teammates” STFU. I am not your teammate. You are not my team. You certainly don’t care about me. And I do not care about you.
Near 30 yo and working a job that is soul sucking. Constantly short staffed because we get paid dog shit and are not allowed to get raises (we're told this when were hired). We're so short staffed that they're paying temp workers and are paying them 10+ more dollars to sit there and greet people while I make below a living wage. I have four months left until I'm done with college and I can look for another job but these last semesters have been very time consuming and I feel like I need to take more time to focus on my studies. My parents told me I can quit and they'd support me until graduation but I'd have to be careful since I won't have health insurance. I really can't pass up a support system like that, they're the best… so I'm writing up my two week notice. I…
Yesterday I informed my boss that I was resigning, and he didn’t take it too well My boss is a menace for a few reasons: 1) he sends us to attend meetings that he’s supposed to attend while saying he has more important stuff to attend to, then claiming it’s good exposure for us. The meetings are often with other team managers so we are out of our depth. 2) he forces our team to be working on office throughout the pandemic, while he works from home since the start of the pandemic 3) we often receive sarcastic remarks from him over work matters, and those remarks are personal at times and affect the team morale 4) he doesn’t know what the team actually does and he is just a messenger to direct work to us. Every issue relating work – he does not know how to handle 5) he…
