Can’t find a job
I’ve been searching on indeed and almost every application has you take test sometimes even recording yourself. I’ve done this dozens of time and I’m tired of being rejected. Am I supposed to just be jobless?? I’m so upset and my self-esteem is taking a hit.
Stay Interview
My supervisor let me know that they will be scheduling a 'stay interview' with me in the coming weeks. Has anyone else had one of these? Appears to be something that has come out of the great resignation as a way for employers to understand why an employee is staying with the company, what gives them purpose at the job, etc. I would love to be honest with my boss that I am really only in it for the pay, retirement plan, health insurance, and job security but I feel like that wouldn't go over well.
At Will Employment
Can someone explain to me why this is a law in 49 states and has not yet been overturned? (Apart from the obvious “corrupt government” reasons) It seems entirely predatory. Why haven't labor organizations/unions lobbied against this and if they have why have they been so unsuccessful in doing so?
The place was as sketchy as you can imagine. It started off legit, but as the months went on (I was there 7.5), it got sketchier and sketchier. I left for two reasons, I moved back with my parents because my lease was up in my apartment and it was too far to commute, and I was promised a raise and promotion for 4 months and it never came. I got a text from the former owner this morning saying he was unaware I left. It’s been 2 months. I did not personally know him before the job, but I did have a connection to him which is why I got the job in the first place. This to me is extremely insulting considering I was one of the reasons the company didn’t go under during the Omnicron surge. It’s just a slap in the face. And then he said,…
This is my first time posting so I will do my best to follow the format I've seen thus far. TLDR: see the title of this post 🙂 I work as a server/bartender in a small town that survives on tourism. A month ago I went to work drunk, was sent home, written up, but not terminated. Absolutely 100% I was in the wrong. I was ashamed, apologized profusely and said it wouldn't happen again. A week ago we had a mandatory FOH (front of house) team meeting starting at 9am in which there was a bar demonstration so that all staff would make the cocktails correctly. Anyone who didn't have to clock on immediately for the lunch shift was welcome to drink the cocktails. I clocked on at 4pm that day and was sober when I clocked on. However, after the meeting I went to brunch with a couple…
Management class tricksters
So, while I was working at my job and passing through time, a man in his 60s filling his car up with gas signaled me to come over and gave a conversation with him. He talked to me about how gas prices are going up because the party and government supposedly hates us and that the rich were being morons saying how we should work harder to achieve financial freedom and I thought that went in line with the movement we have here on this sub reddit. I told him thanks for actually telling the truth of how things are in this economy because so many people are toxic optimists and it's rare to find a full grown ass adult telling shit how it is nowadays. This isn't the first time a conversation like this occurred because the other day, I heard some guy talking about boycotting Disney to my…
My general manager has made this job a living hell. She screams at me for seemingly any reason and randomly institutes new rules using me as the example of what not to do (especially when she was the one who taught me how to do the task in the first place!) She physically gets in the way of me doing my job and shouts “ExCuSE YoU!” rather rudely any time she passes you, complains about me to my face, and screams like a giant toddler when you do literally anything. The environment there has gotten so toxic that I started looking for a new job about a week into working with her. Besides the yelling and indirect insults, she won't let employees go home on time. I worked an extra HOUR today because she refused to allow me to clock out. I could understand like 10-15 minutes over bc we…
