It’s Friday! You made it!!!!
For anyone who needs it.
We must be children.
So, my department had a team meeting yesterday. It was cringey as fuck. Management is horribly out of touch. We were promised that they would “TRY” to do something fun “IF” everyone met their metrics. Sounds to me like we're looking a Pizza Party!! Oh Man! So fuckin' excited! (This is my excited face) And then on top of that….After the meeting, we got a fun little quiz in our email to make sure we were paying attention during the team meeting. I refuse to do a fucking quiz.
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/is-there-an-upside-to-having-no-social-life?utm_source=pocket-newtab This article legitimately describes quality time spent with friends as a “time sink” and argues we should instead “embrace boredom” and spend our free time in solitude day dreaming of ways to be better little worker bees. Don't get me wrong I do believe the lack of brain breaks have led to a lot of the population being burnt out, but that's not because our social lives have expanded greatly in the two years we've been scared to stand within 6 feet of each other. Work encroaching on personal time is the problem, so clearly the answer is to have less personal connections and priorities to encroach on right? Couldn't possibly implement a 4 day work week or better pay and benefits so people can afford time saving luxuries like paying to have the lawn done, or getting prepared meals instead of having to cook. Nah, just get rid…
Why not turn the tables on employers?
Workers could start saying things like: “Don’t be so concerned about profit! Is profit all this company means to you?” “Trust me, if you make that much profit then you’ll be put in a higher tax bracket and actually make LESS money!” “A workers union is in the best interest of the company, you’ll see!” and….. “Instead of working harder, how about we just throw management a pizza party this year!” Hahahahahah
That’s all I have to say. I’m just sitting back and watching it all burn.
Fired After A Week For Differing Opinion
Background, I moved to this city for a Security Administration position for a local county. Been doing this kind of work for 10 years, but often profiled because of my relatively young age (late twenties) I also hold a degree in Network Security and Administration. I go through the normal interview process, everything is normal. First day I go to work is last week, and thats when things immediately start getting strange. I started asking some normal questions, (i.e processes and what is it specifically that is in place today) after hearing some of this information, I find out that they have some severe holes that aren't recognized by the IT Director because he's ancient (been in government IT for 20+ years). I inform him that we should probably look at doing XYZ solution for XYZ problem, and explain why it is a problem, and how it's exploited, etc. I…
I’m so defeated. A little more than two weeks ago my manager thrust a promotion on me. He invited me and several other colleagues to a meeting and announced that we would have a title change. Initially, I was excited because the position was the next role in my career progression, and it came it paid approximately $20,000 more than I make now. The change was immediate and my workload instantly doubled. Fast forward to two weeks later and I find out that they’ve conveniently added the title of “Associate” to my role and that I will not be receiving a pay raise of any kind. I am dumbfounded. Because of Glassdoor, I know how much peers make, and it is more than $20,000 of what I am earning now. I’m shocked that the company, a fortune 50 corporation, could be so cheap. I feel like my only recourse is…
