I was working in a shop and I happen to be the only employee that has the skills to do certain jobs. This seems to be that start of the story for most employee's that get fucked over. I was leaving on the Thursday, and the boss assigned me a job for first thing on Friday morning. I advised him that I had booked the time off more then two months ago and had plans. He said that I had to cancel the plans and that is that! I responded with,”Why, I don't even work here!”. He was surprised as hell, and pointed out that yes I indeed do work there. For the past 2 years, I've worked my ass off to climb the ladder in an attempt to make up for years of sitting around depressed in my early 20s. And in the past few months, I have been considered for a promotion to sub team manager. Now, a bit of context.. My employer is a huge company that you would have never heard of, who pay their staff poorly. Their glassdoor reviews are so bad that they actually asked people to write nice reviews to try and dilute the bad ones. Needless to say, that didn't work too well for them. So you can kind of see how deluded they are. Recently, a lot of us have been shouting about pay increases and have managed to get a decent increase, with me getting one of the biggest raises in the team (44% to be exact). But this wage is…

It's not what it seems. Not even close. For context the mayor that implemented it also gave his construction industry buddies a multi billion dollar deal for a dedicated busline that no one asked for which shut down business on the city's main strip for YEARS and which doesn't work any better than the regular buses and which killed several people because it was not designed well at all and is basically an accident waiting to happen. But back to the topic… The city of Albuquerque HEAVILY policies unsheltered people. And the unsheltered population is increasing. Even though they allow some tent cities to exist in certain parks they regularly bulldoze them at random and have the cops sweeping to harass unsheltered people all the time. They even created a lower level “safety” division that can go around and find unsheltered people just existing for the police to come harass.…

I've been working in a hotel primarily as a waiter but as a million other things in that place too due to staff shortage.I've been working there on top of going to college, which I'm about to graduate from in the coming weeks. It's been nothing but minimum wage and misery. I've been treated like shit since my first day and I'm just burnt out. I've had a hundred “last straw” moments in the time I've been there. Recently I've entertained the idea of quitting, and taking the summer to rest at home whilst searching for graduate programmes related to my degree. I've got money saved up that'd carry me through the summer at the very least. My family are all entirely against the idea. Nobody is dependent on me or anything, they just think it's a bad idea for a healthy 21 year old to quit any paying job.…

maybe they’ll consider this off-topic, but I wanna say it anyway. what is honestly stopping people from planning protests, doing mutual aid, and finding like-minded individuals near you so that we can TEAR THIS SHIT DOWN??? The multitude of excuses we give are all intentional. they want to keep us down. they want to keep us depressed. they do not want us to rise up. they do not want us to have class consciousness. because then we would recognize that each of us holds immense power. What a fucking joke this world is.

I was hired as an admin assistant last July at a small company. The last few months I’ve been covering for someone in accounting while she’s on maternity leave. When they asked me to cover for her, they said they would hire someone else as an admin assistant and then I could switch to marketing (what I want to be doing) after my coworker returns from materiality leave. Switching to marketing was the light at the end of the tunnel in all of this. I have no prior accounting experience, and am horrible with numbers. But my boss said I’m smart and she believes in me. Being in accounting has been 3 months of hell.
