Art is the greatest expression of humanity of our species. Not only are we deprived of it by having our lives sucked into work, our art is ridiculed, commodified and alienated from us. Let's fight for less working hours! So that more hours of art can exist. Make no mistake, art that humanizes is not just the oil painting. It's the text or book written in an explosion of creativity, it's the dance performed in a moment of euphoria, it's poetry sung in a moment of suffering, it's a tool you create, it's a piece of furniture you build. Art creates and reproduces our culture as a people, art perpetuates individuals, art allows us to be more than the laws of physics allow. Art is the deepest expression of a being's personality and history. I know it's hard, I know our jobs drain us of any sense of life and…
Can’t enjoy the weekdays
I pretty much live for the weekends. I almost never plan to do anything fun after work whether it's going to a bar or meeting up with friends. Otherwise I get anxious about having to work the following day and it kills the mood. Anyone else feel the same way?
“Work like it’s a Start-Up”
Sick of companies saying this crap. You want me to work extra hours for no additional pay, do my daily operations on a shoestring budget, and sacrifice my mental health for your bottom line? Fine. Then let's work like this is a startup. I want 1% equity as a bonus.
Know your work policies
I have had multiple supervisors try to force me to use PTO instead of sick time or family sick time. One outright lied to my team saying there is no sick time. If you or you're family is sick, you'll have to use PTO. Look up and know your policy!

I have a unique role in the organization such that nobody else does what I do (learning and development). Each year, we receive a raise “based on performance”, but despite scoring anywhere from 3.90 to 4.88 (out of 5) my raise is consistently 3%, and I am always told that is exceptional, and the maximum they can do. Well, that's half of inflation, and I feel that I worth more than that. Sadly, there aren't a lot of other prospects out there for my very niche skill set (I work in a highly specialized field of IT) so if I leave, I will likely take a few steps down on the chain of any company I go to. So, does anyone have advice about how to…
I am filling out the paperwork for my new job and reading through the employee handbook. Below is a quote: “Any discussion with any member of the [COMPANY] staff regarding your salary will result in immediate termination” Based on previous posts I have read, I believe this is illegal. Can someone point me to a resource to verify this? Should I report this, even though I really need the job? Would they be able to determine that I reported them? Edit- located in Iowa, USA
