I have to tell this even though its been almost two years but I gotta let it out. I worked as an AM at Domino's in Asheville after I got laid off from Sprint after the buyout from T-Mobile for about a month or two. During this time Management got mad at me for throwing away expired meat and insisted that I just change the expiration date sticker on the packaging (this was their internal rule) Cooks/CSR's got paid $7.25, which ought to be criminal- When I had to conduct job interviews, they'd get mad at ME for not bringing them on board when they'd walk out after I mentioned the wages- I'd tell them it's because of the wages and they'd have nothing of it – instead saying maybe we need to reach out more to halfway houses and basically prey on the very desperate Our DM once punched…
I recently quit my first ever job. I hadn’t worked there long, and it was just as a table clearer in a small cafe. I mentioned in the interview when I was applying that I’d need my exam results day off and that that was a dealbreaker for me as those exams are probably some of the most important ones that I’ll ever do. In the interview my manager was fine with it, but a fortnight later when I was finally getting those confirmed she turned around and told me I couldn’t have it despite there clearly being enough staff to cover my absence and even when I got someone who would be willing to cover me. So when a few days later I received an all round better job offer I quit with a few days notice. I know it would seem like throwing a tantrum, and I get…
Happy ending from a past toxic job
Just a fun story I’d share. A couple years ago I worked at a very toxic white collar job. Working til midnight frequently, casually insulted by my manager on a daily basis, several panic attacks. You name it I endured it. I left after about a year for a new gig, gave them the double bird on my way out and never thought about them again. Fast forward to the present, a coworker with whom I’m still friends from a different company I worked for texted me asking if I worked with someone who just applied for a job there. IT WAS THE SAME MANAGER FROM THE FIRST JOB. So I told the truth about my experiences, and the coworker pretty much disqualified ex-manager on the spot, as he valued my opinion over theirs. The most satisfying part was that I didn’t even need to share my opinion on the…
Keep it up my dudes! It’s working.
I work a traveling job and I get paid fairly reasonably for how easy the job is. I made friends with a kid my age working at a large American hardware store, in a fairly high cost of living community in Boulder County Colorado. He said they are currently paying $15-17.5 an hour for normal employees. He told me 5 guys just walked off the job Saturday (if you're reading this I applaud y'all). He got offered a manager job paying $23 an hour, but still it's not enough. Companies are going to be sweating more and more as talent leaves them for better jobs. Keep it up, always bring people with you when you quit.
Quit my job a while ago due to intolerable work conditions (80+ hours of work per week, toxic work environment, rejected promotions, and many other things) My ex-boss just called me and asked whether I wanted to return as they “have so many exciting projects going on” (read: we are understaffed and will abuse you like before) Almost brought a tear to my eye when I told him that I'm happily employed elsewhere at better conditions. 🙂
I work in end of life care (hospice) as a nurse and have for seven years. In the middle of the night, I went to see a new patient who was in distress. I called the on call manager to let her know that we needed to have the patient admitted to our inpatient unit and that the doctor agreed with me. She refused because it wouldn’t financially benefit the company. So, I charted exactly what happened: On call doctor contacted, agreed to inpatient admission. Contacted manager on call who refused for patient to be admitted. I found an alternative for the patient, submitted the paperwork, went home. She called me the next day (my day off) FURIOUS that I had charted about her and demanded that I remove it from my charting. I refused because I didn’t want it to look like I didn’t follow protocol. She then told…
My boyfriend just called out from work
He has worked 29 days straight because they refuse to hire more people even though they have the job listings up, he woke up this morning with symptoms of a cold (hasn’t been tested for the vid yet), calls them and they complain saying “everyone get sick and still come in”. Infuriating because he works in a hospital. They should take it more seriously.
