Like what the hell is their problem? Where does it come from?
Same Minimum Wage for Tipped Workers?
Who would like for tipped workers to be brought up to the same minimum wage as non tipped workers in every state? And also, where do you stand on tipping culture?
My boss steals my tips
I have been working at this job since February and recently my boss approached me about taking tips from the tip jar at the end of my shift. For some background I work at a cafe and they only put one employee on each shift. The singular employee does everything from cashier to cook to server. Sometimes it gets super busy and I can make anywhere from 30-100 plus in tips every five hour shift. They said because they pay 10 dollars an hour it out weighs the tips? My boss told me when they had another employee a year before me this other employee agreed to not having tips for a pay increase from 8 an hour to 10. I was never informed of this nor am I that person that worked there prior? I also am supposed to get electric tips that they withhold. I wasn’t upset until…
I hate being on call
I hate having to sacrifice an entire weekend waiting around for something to be broken.
Noam Chomsky on wage slavery
My boss sold the company.
Owner is getting ready to retire. I'm the production manager. I've been there a decade. Stayed through 4 extinction events. Stayed working at this place for a lesser wage, thinking it would pay off in the long run. Under the assumption, along with talks with the owner, that I would buy the place when he hangs it up. Well, he just told me he has sold the place to a holding company, and I'm the one to train the new “owner” next week. Am I wrong for turning in my key Monday? I feel pretty damn betrayed. Owner has done a lot of shady stuff as well. I've gotten maybe 2 check stubs this year. My PTO hours go missing at the end of every year. Do I owe this…
The Job That Got Me Here
I want to tell you the story of Contents Recovery Experts, and the time in my life when I truly embraced the antiwork mentality. CRE was a restoration company, we restored textiles, electronics, documents, and art to “Pre-loss condition” in the case of a disaster; fire, flood, that sort of thing. We were based in Illinois, but had three or four other locations around the US. I was an Estimator, the only other one in the company other than my boss. Together, we handled all the estimations for every branch. I came into this company by luck. I signed up with a recruiting agency, and they got me in as an Estimator. Basically, my job was to itemize the job, estimate how much it would all cost to restore, and send it to the insurance companies for review. After training, I got my own office, and was basically left…
