As you guys may know, I just popped off. at the advice of a few redditors, I deleted the post until I can take further action, in which I will update everybody shortly within the week. I’ve been told I shouldn’t give as much info, so I will remain as anonymous as possible until I am successful in my plights. Remember to always discuss your wages as long as it’s safe to do so, and make sure you know your rights!
I was fired first thing on Monday morning. I'm the problematic employee that knows her rights, inform others about it and tell the company when they are asking things of us that are against the law. To get unemployment compensation, I have to work until the end of the period of notice (June 30). I did the essential work on Monday and took the rest of the day off (I might get problems for that). I had a day off planned a long time ago yesterday. I have to go back to work today and I'm dreading it. Money is gonna be tight even with the unemployment compensation. The atmosphere at the office has always been hostile. We're understaffed and everyone is stressed. I have no idea how to cope until the end of June. And today, the CEO is graciously inviting all employees to BBQ for lunch so we…
The company I work for is small (15-20 people, mostly engineering and technical staff with a few support personnel) owned by a larger family-owned company back east. I will be replacing the retiring General Manager as a co/assistant GM with another member of the current management team (still haven't worked out the hierarchy yet). The outgoing GM has been doing a lot of work negotiating with the parent company over the last two years to bring employee salaries up to modern, competitive levels and offering new hires proper-for-position and COL-reflective wages. During this, I have been shown in confidence what everyone's wages are and there are LARGE disparities… which the current GM pledges to fix or at least improve by the time of his retirement. I trust that he is sincere in this and will do what he says. Once I graduate into a position of authority, I want to…
My dad’s logic about unionizing
We were on the way home listening to the radio when the host said, “capital workers have earned the right to unionize.” My dad scoffed and said, “Oh great. Now congress definitely won’t be biased at all. Makes no sense.” He said it in the most sarcastic way. I just was silent and felt confused trying to understand his logic. The union is for the workers, not for any political party. I felt sorry for him that he twisted it so much in his head to that.
Got passed over for promotion
As the title said, a few months back I got passed over for promotion, for the team that sits beside my team (same role function). Today my line manager has had a bit of a menty b and is going on a “holiday” for an undetermined amount of time. His manager has asked me step up and look after the team. However the team that I would of been manager for is having troubles with the new manager and all the staff on that team come to me for support on the side. I feel like calling in sick for the rest of this week and next week. I have the sick leave to do it and getting a drs note won’t be an issue. Should I step up and support the guys or should I take some time off and let what’s left management really stumble.
The pushback is working
Young people ask for pay transparency in job postings, saying the deck is stacked against job seekers https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/pay-transparency-job-postings-youth-1.6435727 This is mostly about Canada
Found out from an ex-employee that the starting wage was $10/hr. Fuck em. Glad they're out of business. I regret buying from them and wouldn't have if I knew. If they put up flyers saying that they're offering summer jobs starting at $15/hr plus tips and free food, they'd have a huge stack of resumes. Instead they've lost out on all that revenue because they are too cheap to properly pay people.
