Throwaway account. I work for a larger corporation that has been allowing full time work from home and hybrid options since early 2020. When we started we were told if we did a good job and proved it worked than it would be made permanent. Since then they have praised how well it has gone as we have handled an increasing workload, large scale projects and a large acquisition and integration of another company. Last month they put out a company video where the President promised to continue to allow it as it had worked so well and that they knew how important it was to the work life balance of everyone. Today they suddenly announced they are ending all WFH and hybrid options effective sometime in the next two weeks. They said this would allow people to work face to face again, build stronger relationships and improve communication (even…
After being sick of a toxic work environment, I finally took the plunge. Told my boss and HR exactly why. Denied remote, toxic work environment, coworkers violently acting out, bullying, and shitty clients have pushed me past my breaking point. I'm out. Let the count down begin. I'm free!!
Background: My boss is 66. At work we’re hiring someone new and I asked my boss what we were offering them. She said that it’s against the rules for me to ask what someone’s wage is. This I know for a fact is not true. My position requires me to know every rule in the employee handbook and there is no mention of not being allowed to discuss wages with co-workers. When I called her out on her lie she back pedaled and said it’s part of corporate conduct. I told her no it’s not. There’s no such thing as a corporate conduct rule book lmao. She got frustrated and I finished the conversation by saying I’ll ask whatever questions I want to ask.
We’re all just a number in a database.
It begins!
Thankful for child labor laws.
Had enough. On to better things.
Post Quitting Anxiety
I left a job recently and I'm having a lot of anxiety and guilt. This was a small business in an industry completely new to me. There were red flags aplenty just from the interview process, but it was going to be a significant pay increase (from shit pay to slightly less shit pay) for me so… red flags ignored. There was no training. None. I figured out how to do the job (clerical, mostly) on my own since the owner of the company made it clear that they didn't like to repeat themself. Red flag. This was a male dominated industry, and for this particular company the communication was all “locker room” talk. Women were casually referred to as wh*res, c*nts, etc. I am a woman. This really soured me to any related industry which is unfortunate because they can't all be like this. One employee was treated as…
if someone is unaware, severance is show about technology where one's work memory is cut off from their home/personal memory. as soon as they enter the building, their personal memories vanish and vica versa while leaving the office. very symbolic and pertinent imho.
I've been offered a trial week at a better paid job, it is nothing like what I do atm so a trial week would be good to see if I like the job before handing my notice in at my current job. I can't book holiday at such short notice and with covid restrictions in the workplace completely being lifted at the start of May, I will not be able to use that as an excuse. What's the best way to get a week off?
