i'm 24 years old, no Bachelors' degree or certification, but a strong passion for graphic design, visual art, and crafting. tbh i don't even think i'm that bad. but i'm also not outstanding either; at least not enough to land me a job in the industry as of late. it's…competitive. frankly, if i could make enough money to be comfortable, just writing a webcomic (my dream as a child was to be a manga artist but i think webcomic artist is more ideal now) i would be satisfied with life. but, sadly, my life hasn't turned out that way. (yet?) school is not really an option at the moment so i'm kind of stuck in this retail/receptionist limbo when it comes to careers. most of my actual professional experience is working a retail job. i'm also autistic, and have had to mask my whole life, so a lot of people…
A company I’ve been working with…
Welp, the company at first was really great, they cared about us and now, they have shortened the staff by about 50% and they won't hire new people. What does this means? We have 50% more work for the last 3 months, we work under pressure and now they have merge another company with them, so, we have about 120% more work than we used to and they won't hire new staff so help us out. A few friends and I will leave the company, but I want to get them a gift first: They have illegal Windows and they are profiting from that, so I want to first get them legal with Microsoft. I have been looking throughout internet but I don't seem to find where to report this in my country (Mexico), does someone has the link? I have already taken all the necessary evidence, we have 30+…
My employer does an annual 0-3% payrise. If you surpass 100% of your targets and the company hits at least 120% of their (impossibly optimistic) targets, you get 1-2%. If you somehow 200% your goals and the company only 99%’s their target, you get 0%. I haven’t had a payrise the last 3 out of 5 years working there. This year, with how crazy inflation is going, and knowing how well the company has done from the pandemic, I asked them to consider a cost of living payrise. Prior to asking this, they were going to give me 1%. They made me wait ‘while they talked it through with HR’ for TWO MONTHS. Today, after weeks of stressing? They let me know I haven’t ‘shown enough progress to warrant any payrise.’ They rescinded the 1%. But offered to tell me at my next review in 6 months how I could…
Needed to get this out my chest
i have an very annoying boss, he only responds to messages that is “important” even tho he only responds when he asks if you can take an extra shift. i wrote to him about my morning shifts i have once every 2 week (i am an part time employee who also goes to school) i wrote to him 17-04 and we were at work together monday the day after 18-04 he didnt mention it or anything. yesterday i wrote to him about my checking in and outs he said he “has” to accept it before 11 am the day after and i came to workplace in my lunchbreak and he said i got your message. this has pissed me off alot, i told i cant work today yesterday he said you have to even tho he promised i wouldnt get more thursday shifts. i did not want to argue so…
(This is a warehouse job I’m referring to where quotas are expected to be met.) To be clear, the only two co-workers of mine who have complained about this to me both have interests more aligned with the company than everyone else, and have literally threw other co-workers under the bus. They will defend the company almost all the time. That said, they don’t understand why I don’t want to put 100% of my effort into the job. My reason is that, even though I technically would be paid a few dollars more if I hit certain targets, it isn’t going to improve my situation at all. I live in one of the cheapest studios in town. The bosses I’m sure live in expensive homes. A single page of a customer’s order exceeds my wage in cost by far. Plus, work is dreadful and uninspiring and we have no say…
Government Was Never Going To Save You
Anarchists know that a long period of education must precede any great fundamental change in society, hence they do not believe in vote-begging, nor political campaigns, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals. We look away from government for relief, because we know that force (legalized) invades the personal liberty of man, seizes upon the natural elements and intervenes between man and natural laws; from this exercise of force through governments flows nearly all the misery, poverty, crime and confusion existing in society. – Lucy Parsons, The Principles of Anarchism Too often in discussions of the sins of capitalism do people today turn to the government for answers. The government which, here in the United States, genocided the native, enslaved the African, and robbed Latin America, which treated (and still treats) minority populations as second class citizens, bombed its own people in the name of the rich, silenced dissent…
What am I Doing With My Life
So, I graduated with my master’s degree in recreation management in December of 2021. I truly love the field of recreation, but I cannot get myself to accept the fact that I’ll be working 40 hours a week the rest of my adult life. I would LOVE to work remotely, but the field of recreation is not very remote-work friendly. I have applied for other remote jobs that I qualify for, but 99% of the time I just don’t hear back or get discouraged from applying when I see that a posting has received 400 applications in 2 days on LinkedIn. Right now, I’m working full-time as a Volunteer Coordinator for a non-profit. It’s not a bad job, but I’m getting paid 45k a year (which I negotiated) while having a master’s degree. I just feel lost. I don’t know where to go next. I feel like no matter what…
Trying not to burn out
I’ve gone in early every day this week to assist with events at my job and I’ve only been given 1 day off a week max. I’ve been picking up empty shifts and shifts from my overworked coworkers to let them have time off. I’m trying to get my hands on as many hours as possible so I can get money to start saving. My spouse also works at this place. She worked a few hours earlier than me today and right before we started heading to work my boss messages her that I can come in early if I want. For the first time since I’ve started there over a year ago I couldn’t as I needed a few hours to myself to see the Sunshine and not burn out. He asks my wife when I’m coming in and when she replies ‘She’ll be in at her scheduled time…
Resignation letters. Yes or no?
I love seeing everyone leaving jobs they hate and going on to bigger and better things. We all know US employment is “at-will” and a two week resignation time is a courtesy, rather than a requirement. I’ve seen so many people write out hundreds of words and pages upon pages of long and very detailed resignation notices. My question is…..why write so much? I’ve done both in my life. I’ve written the novel sized resignation letter and also the abbreviated versions with “I quit in two weeks” and my life is the same regardless the letter.
Maybe I’m onto something
I’m thinking of buying a home in Mexico where my father is from. I’ve got a ton of family. To make a long story short, I absolutely hate working, I’m a truck driver. Thinking of just working 6 months out of the year and taking 6 months off and living in Mexico during my off time. It’s so easy to get a job with a Class A. What do you guys think?
